As a Principal Hardware Instrument Engineer (PMTS), you will apply scientific analysis and experimental methods to design, develop, and evolve sensor instrument technology to meet the dynamic needs of our customers. You will oversee the entire lifecycle of instruments, from concept to manufacturing. These devices include, but are not limited to, electro-mechanical, electro-optical, and MEMS sensor systems.

- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in precision instruments development, with expertise in multiple technical disciplines.
- Assess customer needs and evaluate precision instrument solutions for complex problems.
- Lead precision instruments development teams, providing technical and managerial oversight.
- Identify risks associated with precision instruments and develop mitigation strategies.
- Analyze precision instrument requirements and develop suitable technology architectures.
- Design experiments and experimental hardware to validate and optimize design concepts.
- Collaborate with engineers to design and develop precision instrument prototypes and production hardware.
- Integrate precision instruments into larger systems, ensuring performance metrics are met.
- Develop initial processes for fabricating custom-designed instruments.
- Draft and present formal technical documents, reports, and testing results.
- Provide training related to devices for employees, subcontractors, and customers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of the design, development, and application of various instruments.
- Knowledge of fabrication processes for precision instrument hardware.
- Thorough understanding of applied mathematics and physics.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, CAD software, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software, and other relevant design and analysis tools.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Applied Physics, Electrical, or Computer Engineering required; Master's or PhD preferred.
- This position requires the ability to obtain a US secret clearance, which necessitates proof of US citizenship.
- Note: This is a hybrid position requiring onsite presence 3 days per week.
