Principal System Administrators, internally known as Principal Analyst, Infrastructure Workplace Services, collaborate with many teams to support exciting, critical programs with classified information system capabilities. Success in this role means you can develop, implement and maintain secure, cost-efficient environments across various classified programs. Program teams rely on your collaboration and guidance to define computing requirements and create end-to-end solutions to solve complex IT infrastructure problems.

What You Will Do:
  • Act as a DevSecOps Subject Matter Expert (SME) supporting a large, classified Information System (IS), driving the design, implementation, and sustainment of secure, automated infrastructure and application pipelines in coordination with engineering and compliance stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with many different teams, including engineers, software developers, systems administration, storage, networking, tools, and high-performance computing teams, to resolve complex infrastructure and integration challenges.
  • Ensure alignment with regulatory and cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., DFARS, RMF, NIST Cybersecurity Framework) in partnership with cybersecurity teams to maintain continuous compliance.
  • Operate in a fast-paced, fully on-site role within a DoD closed area, supporting mission-critical systems and environments that require near 24x7x365 uptime.
  • Must be able to obtain Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification) within 6 months of start date.
  • Provide support for both planned and emergent tasks, including occasional responsibilities outside standard working hours.
  • Travel up to 10% as required to support program objectives.


Qualifications You Must Have:
  • Typically requires bachelor's degree and minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience or a master's degree and 3 years prior relevant experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Must be able to obtain Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 / 8570 Certification requirements (CompTIA Security+ or equivalent certification) within 6 months of start date.
  • Experience designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications in Kubernetes and hybrid cloud environments using tools like Docker, OpenShift, Rancher, Helm, and ArgoCD.
  • Experience automating infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and CI/CD pipelines using tools like Terraform, Ansible, GitLab, and Packer, while managing system performance, security, and patching on Linux systems.
  • Experience supporting agile DevSecOps workflows by using GitOps practices, and maintaining observability, monitoring, and secure software delivery throughout the development lifecycle.


Qualifications We Prefer:
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and strong communication skills; excels in cross-functional collaboration, organizational effectiveness, and Agile methodologies (SAFe, Scrum, Kanban).
  • Extensive experience designing, deploying, and managing secure, high-performance Kubernetes clusters (including RKE2) and cloud-native platforms using Helm, ArgoCD, Kustomize, and service mesh technologies; skilled in core Kubernetes operations including ReplicaSets, services, ingress controllers (NGINX, Traefik, HAProxy), Persistent Volumes (PV/PVC), and NetApp CSI integration via Trident.
  • Deep understanding of cluster optimization and resiliency, including Horizontal and Vertical Pod Autoscalers (HPA/VPA), high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), node cordoning/uncordoning, draining, and troubleshooting issues such as duplicate VIP assignments.
  • Proficient in GitOps workflows, CI/CD pipeline automation, and infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform, Ansible, Chef, GitLab, GitLab Runner, and Platform One DevSecOps toolchains, strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, and Perl.
  • Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Thanos, and MinIO, ensuring system health and operational visibility across environments.
  • Advanced Linux system administration (RedHat), including kickstart provisioning, Satellite-based patching, RPM packaging, performance tuning, networking, user management, and security hardening; experienced in managing crontabs, Secrets, ConfigMaps, and compliance using Splunk, Nessus, SCAP, STIG, and Ivanti.
  • Broad infrastructure expertise across containerization (Docker, Podman, OpenShift, Rancher, Tanzu), virtualization (VMware, vCenter, ESXi, VDI), Linux/Windows integration (Centrify, Samba), DNS/IP management, certificate and license lifecycle management, NAS/SAN administration, backups, and hardware troubleshooting.

The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
