Job Description
The Software Engineer develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems) based upon documented requirements. Works individually or as part of a team. Review and test software components for adherence to the design requirements and document test results. Resolves software problem reports. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment. Provides specific input to the software components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the-shelf (GOTS) in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components.

Required Skills and Experience
- Software architecture and design planning
- DevOps or sustainment/life-cycle management of system-operational software or services
- Telemetry data
- Implementing and documenting dataflow or system-telemetry pipeline
- Data movement and volume estimations
- Linux, Linux tools, Bash scripting
- Programming in Python
- Supports work across teams to write or enable queries for specialized metrics collection products and ensure that system performance is maintained
- Leadership skills and/or experience with leading an effort
- Communicative, collaborative, and organized
- Familiar with and able to perform full software-development lifecycle support with version-control tools (Git, GitLab)
- Works independently, as well as with a team, to ensure that all components are functioning properly
- Will stay abreast of the latest industry trends in both open source and commercial metrics and monitoring solutions. Supports the determination of if-and-when to incorporate them into an IaC solution
- Willing to and able to learn new tools and protocols
Desired Skills and Experience
- Splunk, Elastic, syslog-ng, ryslog, Kafka, Logstash, and/or Ansible
- Message brokers and data movement tools
- Data analysis
Education and Experience
- Ten (10) years' experience as a SWE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
- Four (4) years of additional SWE experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
