November’s #POPStar is Tyson Van Patten, a Senior Data Scientist here at #PeopleTec!

Tyson has been part of the #PeopleTec family for nearly 3 years, starting as a Skillbridge Intern in November 2022 before joining full-time in March 2023.

When we asked what he enjoys most about his job and team, he shared: “I like that our team is focused on building real-world AI/ML for the DoD. Everyone on the team is an expert and works well with each other. It’s a very positive environment where we collaborate to provide creative and innovative solutions.”

Tyson also spoke about what makes PeopleTec such a great place to work: “I really enjoy the culture of trust and mutual respect. When given a task, we are given the freedom to design and lead solutions, but there’s always support and mentorship available. There’s a genuine commitment to both the mission and the people, which makes even the most challenging projects achievable and immensely rewarding.”

Outside of work, Tyson volunteers with his daughter’s Speech & Debate Club, where he enjoys helping students learn and strengthen their communication and reasoning skills. In his free time, he enjoys tinkering with his home automation setup and cheering on his favorite Colorado sports teams—the Broncos, Avalanche, and Nuggets (but, as he says, “we don’t talk about the Rockies” ).

When it’s time to relax, Tyson enjoys TV shows that highlight friendship, including The Good Place, Parks and Rec, Modern Family, and The Office. He’s also a big fan of grunge and 2000s pop-punk, with favorites like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, and Bowling for Soup.
