Job Description
Senior Engineer - Project Engineer
Client Description
On-site in Carlsbad, CA
Our client seeks a Senior Engineer operating as a Project Engineer on a fast-paced, multidisciplinary development program. The role requires systems-level thinking, broad technical capability, and coordination across hardware, software, integration, and test. The selected engineer will grow into sensing-focused ownership, align cross-functional teams, lead technical tradeoffs, and drive execution from concept through delivery.
Due to federal security clearance requirements, applicant must be a United States Citizen with an active Secret clearance. Due to client requirements, applicants must be willing and able to work on a w2 basis. For our w2 consultants, we offer a great benefits package that includes Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits, 401k with company matching, and life insurance.
Rate: $100.00 to $120.00/hr. w2
Responsibilities
Serve as the Project Engineer for a major development effort and own system-level technical coordination across multiple engineering disciplines.
Define and maintain system architectures, interfaces, and technical requirements with consistency and traceability.
Lead technical trade studies and decision-making across performance, risk, schedule, and cost.
Develop and eventually own sensing-related architectures, interfaces, and performance.
Collaborate across hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, and test teams to ensure end-to-end system performance.
Identify and resolve cross-domain technical issues at integration and interface boundaries.
Guide design decisions to support testability, reliability, manufacturability, and scalability.
Build understanding of sensor technologies, data acquisition, and system-level sensing performance.
Translate sensing behaviors and constraints into clear system requirements and integration strategies.
Support technical planning, milestone definition, and risk management with program management.
Provide technical feedback to schedules, resourcing, and build/test strategies while tracking readiness and integration maturity.
Coordinate efforts across engineering teams and mentor engineers in systems thinking and disciplined development practices.
Serve as a technical point of contact for engineering leadership and customers.
Support definition of system-level test and validation strategies, assist with root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions.
Experience Requirements
8-12+ years of experience in complex system or product development.
Proven ability to lead or coordinate multidisciplinary technical efforts.
Strong systems engineering fundamentals including requirements, interfaces, and integration.
Ability to learn new technical domains and operate effectively in ambiguous environments.
Strong communication skills with the ability to align diverse technical teams.
Ability to travel up to 25% domestically.
Ability to work on-site in Carlsbad, CA or Tempe, AZ in a hybrid schedule of three days per week.
United States Citizenship.
Ability to obtain a United States Top Secret/SCI Clearance; active Secret clearance preferred.
Helpful: experience with sensor-enabled or data-driven systems, embedded systems, controls, data processing, or system integration; prior Project Engineer, Lead Engineer, or Technical Lead experience; full product lifecycle delivery.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, Systems, or related field). Master’s preferred.
