Job Description
Electromechanical Engineer - Lexington, MA
3 Year Renewable Contract - Interim Security Clearance
Group realizes prototype systems that demonstrate advanced technology. The group provides innovative fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of advanced hardware prototypes for national security applications. The group is involved from the initial design through the final build including important operational elements such as production control and material management. The group concentrates on high-complexity parts, quick-turn capabilities and activities that require concurrent engineering with program teams. Specific examples of fabrication activities include the precision machining of fiber mounts for airborne high energy laser systems, multi-functional structures using additive processes for ground-based radar systems, custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) for space-borne data processing, and highly integrated mechanical packaging for undersea communication terminals. Core mechanical competencies span precision fabrication, additive manufacturing, and 5-axis machining. Core PCB assembly capabilities include design for manufacturability (DFM), advanced solder paste jet dispensing, flexible surface mount technology (SMT) pick-n-place systems, and automated optical inspection (AOI) machines. Assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) capabilities include integration spaces, clean rooms, vibration testing, thermal testing, and space simulation chambers. The Group focuses on state-of-practice prototyping capabilities, exceptional collaboration, operational proficiency and technical excellence.
Seeking a talented, creative, and motivated individual to strengthen the Group’s ability to provide rapid and innovative solutions to challenging problems. The successful candidate is a cross-functional leader responsible for driving the operational execution of engineering development and prototype manufacturing from planning through assembly, integration, and delivery. This role integrates program management, supply chain planning, supplier management, engineering manufacturing execution, and operational readiness to ensure prototype hardware is delivered to programs on time, within budget, and to the required quality and technical specifications. Responsible for translating engineering technical data packages into clear, accurate, and executable manufacturing processes within the Manufacturing Execution System (MES). This role serves as a critical interface between Engineering and Fabrication, converting drawings, bills of material, specifications, assembly requirements, inspection criteria, and other technical data into digital work instructions, routings, build sequences, and manufacturing documentation that enable efficient and repeatable prototype hardware builds. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes, is highly detail-oriented, and can translate complex technical requirements into practical instructions for manufacturing personnel. The role will support prototype builds across electronics, mechanical, cable, chassis, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Data Package Development and Manufacturing Support
o Develop manufacturing documentation for prototype hardware including PCBA, cable/harness assemblies, machined components, chassis/enclosures, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
o Partner with manufacturing personnel to validate work instructions and ensure processes are practical, clear, and executable.
o Update manufacturing instructions based on build feedback, engineering changes, lessons learned, and process improvements.
o Support rapid-turn prototype builds while maintaining appropriate configuration and revision control.
Engineering and Manufacturing Interface – Collaborate with program engineers and planning team during design for manufacturing (DFM) reviews, kick-off meetings for high complexity hardware, and readiness reviews.
Quality and Configuration Control – Incorporate inspection requirements, acceptance criteria and required documentation into manufacturing processes. Support non-conformance resolution by updating manufacturing instructions and coordinating dispositions where appropriate.
Continuous Improvement – Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, clarity, scalability, standardized approaches, and the evolution of prototype manufacturing and use of the digital tools.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline
• Experience in manufacturing engineering, manufacturing operations, production engineering, technical documentation, or related discipline
• Demonstrated ability to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Experience developing manufacturing work instructions, routings, travelers, or similar production documentation
• Experience with a Manufacturing Execution System is required (such as FactoryLogix or similar tool)
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and assembly methods
Preferred Skills:
• Experience supporting prototype or high-mis/low-volume hardware manufacturing
• Experience with PCBA, cable/harness, machining, or electro-mechanical assembly processes.
• Experience with digital manufacturing systems and MES implementation, PLM-to-MES data flows and engineering/manufacturing configuration management, and ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing BOMs.
Other
-Interim clearance is sufficient for start
-This candidate should expect to be onsite 5 days/wk
