Job Description

Description

Do you enjoy helping customers, administering enterprise IT services, and finding better ways to deliver technology?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.

APL is seeking a Messaging & Identity Systems Specialist to join our Server Systems Group within the Infrastructure Services Section.

In this role, you will provide trusted administration and operational support for enterprise Messaging, Active Directory, and related infrastructure services. This position is crucial for managing service queues, driving continuous improvement, conducting reporting and data analysis, and working closely with customers, subject matter experts, and Service Managers.

Your initial responsibilities will focus on Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, enterprise mailing lists, and related fulfillment activities. You will also help triage operational work across Server Systems, identify requests that need attention, and work with our technical teams to keep customer requests moving toward resolution.

This position is designed to evolve as our services evolve. As APL expands its use of Microsoft 365 and modernizes collaboration, identity, and provisioning capabilities, you will have opportunities to support new operational processes while helping us automate and improve existing ones.
As a Messaging & Identity Systems Specialist, you will...
  • Support enterprise Messaging and Active Directory services, including shared mailboxes, distribution groups, resource mailboxes, delegated access, security groups, service accounts, and administrative accounts.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Outlook calendaring and resource scheduling solutions, working directly with customers to understand requirements and resolve issues.
  • Provide direct support to executive administrative staff for calendaring, resource scheduling, shared mailbox, and delegation needs.
  • Perform security-sensitive administrative functions within established access, naming, governance, and operational standards.
  • Work closely with Active Directory, Messaging/Exchange, and other Server Systems engineers on requests, escalations, operational issues, and new capabilities.
  • Support emerging Microsoft 365 fulfillment and provisioning activities as our collaboration and identity services evolve.
  • Manage and triage ServiceNow queues associated with Server Systems services, identify aging or stalled requests, and proactively coordinate with Service Managers and technical teams when work requires attention.
  • Facilitate operational activities such as infrastructure commissioning and decommissioning, recurring audits, monitoring updates, and account administration.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive work and improve customer self-service using technologies such as PowerShell, ServiceNow workflows, Microsoft 365 capabilities, APIs, and AI-assisted tools.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge articles, operational procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Cross-train across appropriate Server Systems services to improve operational coverage and team resiliency.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Have experience administering Microsoft Active Directory and supporting Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, Microsoft 365, or similar enterprise collaboration technologies.
  • Have experience performing security-sensitive administrative functions within enterprise IT systems.
  • Demonstrate strong troubleshooting, customer service, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Are able to independently manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment when administering enterprise accounts, permissions, and services.
  • Are proactive and comfortable following up with colleagues when operational work requires attention.
  • Have experience developing or maintaining technical documentation or operating procedures.
  • Are motivated to learn new technologies and take on additional responsibilities as enterprise services evolve.
  • Are able to obtain Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • Have experience with Microsoft Exchange Server or Exchange Online.
  • Have experience with Microsoft 365 collaboration, provisioning, or identity service configurations and management.
  • Have experience administering shared mailboxes, resource mailboxes, distribution groups, delegated permissions, security groups, or service accounts.
  • Have experience with PowerShell scripting or process automation.
  • Have experience with ServiceNow or another enterprise IT service management platform.
  • Understand identity and access management concepts and enterprise account lifecycle processes.
  • Have experience supporting executive customers or senior leadership administrative staff.
  • Have experience with enterprise mailing list platforms such as LISTSERV.
  • Have demonstrated initiative in improving operational processes through automation, documentation, workflow improvements, or customer self-service.
