reliability, and compliance with FAA operational, safety, and quality standards while supporting
modernization and sustainment activities across the National Airspace System (NAS).
This position requires extensive nationwide travel to FAA facilities, transmitter/receiver sites,
remote locations, and operational environments.
**Requires greater than 70% travel**
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design, test, refine, and validate engineering solutions for APC, APCMS, voice
switch/IPVCS, VoIP, and NAS telecommunications systems.
• Provide senior technical reachback for unresolved, high-impact, or systemic issues
affecting FAA voice and telecommunications infrastructure.
• Analyze recurring field issues to identify systemic design, configuration, training, or
sustainment impacts.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to troubleshoot issues, ensure compliance with
FAA safety, quality, and operational standards, and deliver solutions aligned with
technical and business requirements.
• Support modernization initiatives, system transitions, and integration of new technologies
into NAS operational environments.

accuracy and alignment with FAA operational needs.
• Participate in technical interchange meetings, support calls, and lessons-learned reviews.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering and support personnel.
• Ensure engineering solutions meet FAA requirements for reliability, supportability, and
long-term sustainment.
• Travel extensively (>70%) to FAA HQ, field sites, remote facilities, and operational
environments to support installations, troubleshooting, assessments, and technical
engagements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree OR equivalent experience satisfying federal education-equivalency
standards.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in telecommunications, voice systems, networked
communications, or operational technology.
• Experience with APC, APCMS, voice switch/IPVCS, VoIP, or NAS systems.
• Ability to analyze complex technical problems and provide practical, supportable
recommendations.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Ability to evaluate system performance, interfaces, supportability, and sustainment risks.
• Willingness to travel extensively (>70%) and work flexible schedules, including
weekends or holidays based on system demands.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Prior FAA, NAS, Tech Ops, Engineering Services, ATC communications, or
APC/APCMS/IPVCS experience.
• Experience with operational risk management, implementation readiness, field support,
and sustainment transition.
• Experience peer reviewing technical deliverables, training materials, issue resolutions, or
test/support documentation.
• Knowledge of NAS modernization, VoIP, remote sites, or ATC facility operations.
Physical Demands:
This position requires physical capabilities consistent with senior-level field engineering work in
support of federal aviation infrastructure. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable
individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel for extended periods during site
assessments and equipment installations
• Ability to climb ladders, towers, and elevated platforms up to 100 feet using fall
protection equipment
• Ability to lift and carry tools, components, and diagnostic equipment weighing up to 50
pounds
• Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights while performing detailed technical
tasks
• Ability to travel long distances by car or air to reach remote or nationwide sites
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow)
• Ability to adapt to variable work schedules, including early mornings, evenings,
weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs and emergency response
requirements
Working Conditions:
This role supports FAA telecommunications and radio systems across the National Airspace
System (NAS) and involves dynamic field environments with leadership responsibilities.
• Frequent travel (>70%) to FAA facilities, transmitter/receiver sites, and
telecommunications hubs across the U.S.
• Exposure to outdoor and elevated work environments, including rooftops, towers, and
remote terrain
• Work in secure federal facilities and restricted-access areas, requiring adherence to safety
and security protocols
• Oversight of team-based projects in field conditions, including mentoring and technical
supervision
• Flexible work hours and short-notice deployments in response to system outages,
