Job Description

LMI is seeking an Atlassian Solution Architect at the Senior level to design secure, scalable enterprise Atlassian Cloud environments supporting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) technology modernization initiatives. This role combines solution architecture, cloud migration strategy, identity and access integration, Jira and Confluence in Commercial Cloud governance, and technical leadership to establish sustainable platform standards for diverse teams.

The Atlassian Solution Architect will define the target-state site and organization architecture, guide configuration decisions, assess legacy Data Center assets, and establish migration patterns for projects, permissions, users, marketplace apps, and integrations. The architect will work with security, identity, engineering, administration, portfolio, and government stakeholders to make well-supported design choices and oversee technical implementation.

This is not a diagram-only architecture position. The successful candidate must anticipate operational constraints, validate designs through implementation and testing, resolve platform tradeoffs, and help teams adopt standards without sacrificing necessary functionality. The ideal candidate pairs deep Atlassian expertise with pragmatic delivery judgment, risk management, and the ability to explain complex technical decisions to senior leaders.

LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.

Leveraging our mission-ready technology and solutions, proven expertise in federal deployment, and strategic relationships, we enhance outcomes for the government, efficiently and effectively. With a focus on agility and collaboration, LMI serves the defense, space, healthcare, and energy sectors—helping agencies navigate complexity and outpace change. Headquartered in Tysons, Virginia, LMI is committed to delivering impactful results that strengthen missions and drive lasting value.

Responsibilities

  • Define target-state Atlassian Commercial Cloud organization and site architecture, governance standards, and configuration patterns.
  • Develop reference architecture, solution decisions, site and organization standards, and documented exceptions covering Jira Commercial Cloud (JCC), Confluence Commercial Cloud (CCC), identity, and governance.
  • Design identity federation, SSO, MFA-aligned access, group mapping, role-based permissions, and appropriate security controls.
  • Lead current-state assessment and Data Center and GovCloud-to-Commercial Cloud migration strategy, including phased cutover, coexistence, and rollback considerations.
  • Set standards for projects, workflows, fields, templates, apps, Confluence spaces, and enterprise reporting.
  • Oversee migration and integration designs, including JCC-to-GitHub/CI-CD connectivity and portfolio reporting interfaces.
  • Evaluate marketplace app compatibility, license and site options, technical risks, and tradeoffs; document architecture decisions.
  • Lead technical reviews, validation criteria, and knowledge transfer to operations teams.
  • Lead migration readiness reviews, application dependency mapping, coexistence strategy, cutover approvals, and validation criteria for legacy environments.
  • Evaluate permission models, least-privilege access, SAML/OIDC federation, MFA requirements, group synchronization, and secure administrative practices with security teams.
  • Oversee technical proof-of-concept activities for high-risk configuration patterns, marketplace app replacements, data movement, and key integrations.
  • Set build-quality standards, review implementation evidence, manage architectural risk, and direct knowledge transfer for long-term operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, software engineering, cybersecurity, or a related technical field. Four additional years of relevant experience may substitute for a Bachelor's.
  • 8+ years in enterprise application architecture, Atlassian engineering, or platform modernization.
  • Atlassian ACP-120 Jira Administration for Cloud certification and either legacy ACP-100 Jira Administration for Data Center certification or a current equivalent credential, paired with demonstrated Data Center-to-Cloud migration leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership of Jira/Confluence Data Center-to-Cloud migration efforts.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Atlassian Cloud administration, SSO, permissions, automation, and integrations.
  • Ability to design secure solutions in regulated or large-enterprise settings.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable Public Trust determination and satisfy applicable federal personnel vetting, security, privacy, accessibility, and data-handling requirements.
  • Experience documenting architecture decisions and leading technical design reviews involving security, operations, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to assess app compatibility, licensing tradeoffs, performance, and migration risks across a heterogeneous Atlassian estate.

Desired:
  • Prior experience supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), or federal health programs is highly desirable.
  • Jira Align, GitHub integration, and Confluence migration experience.
  • Atlassian Guard, SAML/OIDC, API integration, and cloud marketplace app rationalization.
  • Federal IT governance, accessibility, and security compliance experience.
  • Experience designing enterprise portfolio integration patterns and coaching administration teams on reusable cloud standards.
  • A master's degree in computer science, systems engineering, information systems, cybersecurity, or technology management is highly desirable.
  • Additional certifications such as Atlassian Cloud Organization Admin or Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) are desirable.
