We are a federal IT company on a mission to make customer experience (CX) the center of every government solution.
Technology is our Passion. People are our Purpose.
We know tech, but we love people. NuAxis is home to thinkers and feelers, engineers and artists. We work hard and support each other along the way. Teamwork is more than just a buzzword for us, it's a state of mind. We believe happy employees do amazing work, so join our team NOW! We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Mid-Level Appian Developer for a Full-Time position.
Job Summary:
The Mid-Level Appian Developer will design, build, test, and maintain Appian workflows, interfaces, and integrations for an enterprise case management platform supporting multiple federal programs. Working under the technical direction of the Senior Appian Developer, this individual will deliver sprint commitments, resolve production defects, implement regulatory-driven enhancements, and help keep a high-availability platform stable through seasonal filing surges. This is a hands-on role for a developer who writes clean, reusable Appian code and understands how low-code solutions integrate with enterprise data and event-streaming architectures.
Key Responsibilities
Appian Application Development
• Develop and enhance Appian process models, SAIL interfaces, records, reports, expression rules, decision rules, and data types supporting end-to-end case management workflows.
• Build and maintain workflows for correspondence generation, document management, user access management, task routing, and case status automation.
• Implement regulatory and policy-driven changes, including reference data and validation logic updates (e.g., wage tables, occupational classification codes, geography tables, rate tables, and correspondence templates).
• Support nightly automation jobs that update case statuses, create work tasks, and auto-process eligible applications.
• Apply Appian best practices for reusability, performance, maintainability, and low technical debt in alignment with customer coding standards.
Integration & Data
• Develop and maintain Appian integrations with Apache Kafka (event streaming), REST/third-party APIs, the Drupal filer portal, and document storage services.
• Write and optimize complex SQL queries, views, and stored procedures against Oracle databases (AWS RDS).
• Support data flows to downstream reporting and analytics (Tableau / enterprise data platform).
• Contribute to Interface Control Document (ICD) updates for integration points with internal and interagency systems.
Operations & Maintenance (O&M) and Production Support
• Triage, analyze, and resolve production defects and help desk tickets within agreed SLAs, prioritizing fixes that affect statutory and regulatory processing timelines.
• Participate in root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes to prevent repeat issues.
• Provide post-deployment hypercare support and participate in load/performance readiness activities before peak filing seasons.
• Support security vulnerability remediation, platform patching, and Appian version upgrades in coordination with the customer's CIO office.
Agile Delivery & Quality
• Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives; estimate stories using the program's point scale.
• Perform unit testing against acceptance criteria (target: 95% error-free on new functionality; 100% on defect fixes) and participate in peer code reviews each sprint.
• Maintain JIRA traceability (epics, stories, tasks, defects) and document technical designs and inline code in accordance with program standards.
• Support UAT by resolving defects quickly and regression-testing fixes prior to production deployment.
Follow configuration management, change control, and deployment procedures to ensure releases are deployed without issue and can be rolled back if needed
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (additional relevant experience may substitute).
• 3-5 years of professional software development experience, including 2+ years of hands-on Appian development (process models, SAIL interfaces, records, integrations, expression rules).
• Experience integrating Appian with external systems via REST APIs, web services, and/or message/event platforms (Apache Kafka preferred).
• Strong SQL skills, including complex queries against Oracle or comparable relational databases.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript and web technologies.
• Experience delivering in Agile/Scrum environments using JIRA and Git-based source control (GitLab preferred).
• Familiarity with Section 508 / WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements for user interfaces.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Federal Public Trust suitability determination
Preferred Qualifications
• Certification: Appian Certified Associate Developer or Appian Certified Senior Developer.
• Domain: Experience supporting federal case management systems with public-facing web interfaces, ideally in labor, immigration, or benefits adjudication programs.
• Platforms: Exposure to Drupal, Cosmos DB, Azure and/or AWS cloud services, and DevOps/CI-CD pipelines.
• Appian Depth: Experience with Appian document generation, correspondence management, and role-based access management.
• Innovation: Experience applying AI-assisted development, Appian AI Skills, or intelligent document processing to accelerate delivery or automate case work.
• Operations: Prior experience supporting high-volume systems through seasonal peak loads and code-freeze periods.
