Caribou Thunder is seeking a Network Engineer 3 to support the TASD contract, configuring, maintaining, securing, and troubleshooting mission-critical network infrastructure. This role will focus on network hardware installation and sustainment, including HP Aruba switches, routers, and firewalls, while supporting the design and implementation of advanced networking solutions. Working closely with cybersecurity and engineering teams, the successful candidate will perform DISA STIG assessments, remediate security deficiencies, implement network hardening measures, and help maintain secure and reliable network operations.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on network engineering experience, knowledge of DoD cybersecurity requirements, and the ability to automate network configuration and maintenance activities. This position requires strong technical problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across engineering, cybersecurity, and vendor teams to deliver secure, resilient network capabilities.
A Day in the Life - What you'll do
  • Configure, install, maintain, patch, and troubleshoot network infrastructure, including HP Aruba network switches, routers, firewalls, and related hardware.
  • Support the engineering, design, and implementation of new network solutions to meet evolving program and mission requirements.
  • Evaluate network devices and system configurations against applicable DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity personnel to conduct STIG assessments, identify security deficiencies, document findings, and implement remediation actions.
  • Apply advanced network security hardening techniques, including Out-of-Band Management (OOBM) isolation, Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) segmentation, and Control-Plane Policing (CoPP).
  • Implement and maintain secure network configurations while supporting system availability, performance, and operational reliability.
  • Use network automation tools such as Ansible to streamline configuration management, deployment, and recurring maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot network hardware, connectivity, configuration, and performance issues, coordinating with engineering and cybersecurity teams to resolve problems.
  • Support network installation, upgrades, patching, and repair activities while minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Coordinate with hardware and network vendors to expedite equipment installations, maintenance, and repairs to maximize system uptime.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, configuration records, and implementation schedules.
  • Prioritize competing technical tasks, coordinate work against established schedules, and communicate status, risks, and issues to program stakeholders.
  • Apply infrastructure automation and configuration management practices to support repeatable, secure, and maintainable network environments.
  • Contribute to collaborative engineering efforts using Agile, SAFe, and DevSecOps practices where applicable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of contract and mission requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with 5 years of relevant experience, or 9 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Hands-on experience configuring, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting network hardware, including switches, routers, firewalls, or similar infrastructure.
  • Experience using network automation tools such as Ansible.
  • Ability to evaluate network and system configurations for compliance with applicable security requirements.
  • Experience implementing network security hardening techniques and maintaining secure network configurations.
  • CompTIA Security+ CE or an equivalent certification meeting applicable DoD 8570.01-M requirements.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance required to start.
  • Ability to lift at least 35 pounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document technical activities and communicate issues effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing requirements, and execute work within established schedules and timelines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience implementing and maintaining DoD security requirements, particularly DISA STIGs.
  • Experience with network simulation and lab environments such as GNS3 or EVE-NG.
  • Experience configuring and maintaining Aruba CX operating systems and network switches.
  • Experience with hardware-based firewall technologies and network security appliances.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies, particularly VMware.
  • Experience coordinating with equipment vendors to expedite installations, troubleshoot hardware issues, and complete repairs while maintaining maximum system uptime.
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and automated infrastructure configuration practices.
  • Familiarity with Agile, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), and DevSecOps concepts.
  • Experience implementing network segmentation, OOBM isolation, VRF configurations, and CoPP policies.
