Job Description
Location: Pawcatuck, CT
Security Clearance: US Citizen/Clearable
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of an advanced inductive power and data acquisition system for maritime applications.
This role will focus on developing a high-reliability, low-noise data acquisition system that operates through an air-gapped inductive power and communications interface.
The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in mixed-signal electronics, precision data acquisition, power electronics, magnetics, and embedded communications, with a proven ability to develop reliable hardware for harsh and mission-critical environments.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will play a key technical role in advancing innovative technology targeted for U.S. Navy deployment.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of complex engineering challenges, influence system architecture, and work directly with engineers and customers in a collaborative, technically driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, development, and validation of low-noise, high-reliability data acquisition systems operating through inductive power and communications links.
- Design analog front-end circuitry, including high-resolution ADC interfaces, filtering, clocking, signal conditioning, and noise reduction.
- Develop and optimize inductive power transfer systems, including coil and magnetic designs, driver circuits, rectification, voltage regulation, and DC/DC conversion.
- Design and validate digital communications over inductive interfaces, including modulation, encoding, error correction, and data integrity.
- Own analog and digital PCB development, including schematic design, component selection, layout reviews, and mixed-signal design practices.
- Integrate data acquisition, power, and communications subsystems into electromechanical assemblies for maritime and underwater applications.
- Conduct system-level testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization using laboratory instrumentation and diagnostic tools.
- Collaborate with embedded software engineers to ensure proper firmware integration, timing, sequencing, configuration, and fault management.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers while contributing to architecture discussions, design reviews, and prototype evaluations.
- Develop technical documentation, test plans, engineering analyses, and presentations for internal teams and customers.
- Support field testing and technology demonstrations, including occasional travel of up to 10%.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience; Master’s degree with 3+ years; or PhD with relevant academic experience.
- Strong background in mixed-signal design, power electronics, and/or precision data acquisition systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in low-noise analog circuit design, including sensor interfaces, ADC-based acquisition systems, grounding, and noise optimization.
- Experience designing high-efficiency power electronics, including DC/DC converters, magnetics, MOSFET/IGBT circuits, and power amplifiers.
- Proficiency in mixed-signal PCB design, component selection, schematic development, and layout considerations for noise-sensitive applications.
- Experience with microcontrollers, embedded processors, and digital communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, and RS-422.
- Understanding of EMI/EMC requirements and designing electronics for demanding environmental conditions.
- Strong hands-on laboratory skills, including troubleshooting complex electronic systems and validating hardware performance.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and customers.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing electrical systems for underwater, maritime, defense, or other mission-critical applications.
- Background in inductive power transfer, magnetic coupling, or wireless power systems.
- Familiarity with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Experience with LTspice, MATLAB, or similar circuit simulation and engineering analysis tools.
- Previous experience providing technical mentorship or leading engineering design teams.
- Familiarity with electromechanical systems, acoustic sensors, or underwater transducer technology.
Why This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity for a technically strong electrical engineer to take ownership of sophisticated hardware development supporting advanced maritime and defense applications. You’ll work on challenging engineering problems, influence system architecture, collaborate across disciplines, and see your designs progress from concept through testing and deployment.
The position is particularly well suited for an engineer who enjoys hands-on design, solving complex mixed-signal and power electronics challenges, and contributing to technology with real-world mission impact.
