Job Description

acuCyber is seeking a DevOps Engineer to build, automate, and maintain the cloud infrastructure and secure deployment environments supporting mission applications and core services. This role combines infrastructure as code, Kubernetes deployment, and automated security testing within Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments.
The engineer will work closely with software developers to establish consistent environments and move services into reliable, scalable deployments. Candidates should understand how cloud infrastructure, container orchestration, networking, and security controls work together. We are looking for hands-on experience designing and operating these environments, with an emphasis on automation, troubleshooting, and improving software delivery.
This role is full time on Government site. Charleston, SC preferred but highly qualified candidates in the National Capital Region (NCR) will also be considered.
What You’ll Do
• Build, automate, and maintain AWS infrastructure supporting development, integration, testing, and operational deployments.
• Develop infrastructure as code and Ansible automation to create repeatable deployments, maintain consistent configurations, and reduce configuration drift.
• Deploy and operate containerized applications using Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift, addressing scalability, availability, networking, resource management, and persistent storage.
• Build and maintain continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines that automate software builds, testing, security checks, and deployments.
• Configure and maintain the DevOps toolchain, including container registries, artifact repositories, and environment configurations.
• Integrate automated security testing into delivery workflows and work with developers to remediate vulnerabilities and pipeline performance bottlenecks.
• Support AWS GovCloud deployments and environments subject to Department of Defense Impact Level 5 (IL5) requirements.
• Implement monitoring, centralized logging, and alerting to support troubleshooting, capacity planning, and service reliability.
• Configure platform access controls and integrate secrets management and certificate handling into deployment workflows.
• Troubleshoot issues involving Linux systems, cloud networking, permissions, storage, and container orchestration.
• Automate patching, deployment validation, rollback, and recovery procedures.
• Document pipeline configurations and operational procedures, contribute to implementation plans and security testing reports, and help developers use the delivery environment effectively.
• Evaluate tools and deployment approaches through proof-of-concept testing and improve deployment speed, vulnerability remediation, automated testing, and service availability.
Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as engineering or mathematics. Relevant fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, and Information Systems.
• Typical experience: 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) clearance with a Counterintelligence (CI) Polygraph.
• Prior experience supporting the Intelligence Community.
• Experience applying programming concepts in a professional or academic setting.
• Experience applying modern software development methodologies, such as Agile, DevOps, or DevSecOps, in a professional or academic setting.
• Hands-on experience building and operating AWS infrastructure, including compute, networking, storage, and Identity and Access Management (IAM).
• Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes workloads, including service networking, persistent storage, scaling, and troubleshooting.
• Experience developing Ansible automation and maintaining infrastructure as code.
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated security testing into software delivery workflows.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience automating infrastructure and operational tasks using Python, Bash, or comparable scripting languages.
• Experience with Git and version-controlled infrastructure and configuration management.
• Ability to diagnose issues across cloud infrastructure, container platforms, and application deployments.
• Agile Developer certification or Certified Scrum Developer certification is required.
Desired Qualifications
• Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as engineering or mathematics. Relevant fields include Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, and Information Systems.
• Meet DoD 8140 / 8570 IAM Level II or III baseline requirements (such as CISSP, CISM, CAP/ISC2 CGRC).
• Red Hat OpenShift: Experience with application deployments, cluster configuration, access controls, networking, and workload security.
• Government cloud environments: Experience with AWS GovCloud and deployment constraints associated with Department of War Impact Level 5 environments.
• Infrastructure automation: Experience with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or comparable tools, along with reusable Ansible roles and playbooks.
• Security tooling: Experience integrating static and dynamic application security testing, dependency checks, and container image scanning into delivery pipelines.
• Stateful services: Experience deploying and supporting databases or search platforms, including storage configuration, backup and recovery, and availability.
• Platform security: Experience integrating enterprise identity services, managing secrets, and automating certificate deployment and renewal.
• Reliability and recovery: Experience implementing health checks, resource monitoring, rollback procedures, and tested recovery processes.
• Relevant certifications: AWS, Kubernetes, Red Hat, or infrastructure automation certifications.
