Job Description
BOAB VENTURES
Senior Structural Analysis Engineer (Space Systems)
Location: Onsite at one of three client sites: Chantilly, VA; Palm Bay, FL; or Carlsbad, CA
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain TS/SCI. Active TS/SCI strongly preferred.
About the Role
BOAB Ventures is hiring a senior Structural Analysis Engineer for a major defense and space prime. You will be the lead structural voice on advanced spacecraft and space payload programs, supporting new business pursuits, active program execution, and the growth of the engineering team around you.
Your analysis will drive real decisions. It will shape proposals, close out PDR and CDR milestones, disposition flight hardware, and tell program leadership where the risk sits. This is a role for someone who has carried structural analysis on space hardware and wants to set the standard for how it gets done.
What You Will Do
• Develop structural analysis technical content and Basis of Estimate (BOE) inputs for new business bids and proposals.
• Perform linear and nonlinear finite element analysis to evaluate structural integrity, launch environments, operational loads, and repair or reinforcement options.
• Support active programs with vibration test analysis, deployment simulation, and detailed component assessments.
• Produce analysis products that support hardware dispositions, risk assessments, and engineering decisions.
• Provide technical oversight at key milestones, including PDR and CDR closure.
• Work with Thermal, Systems, Electrical, Manufacturing, I&T, Quality, and Configuration Management, as well as suppliers and customers, to drive designs to closure.
• Define requirements, loads, environments, and analysis approaches with cross functional teams.
• Improve team efficiency through scripting, automation, and standardized analysis methods.
• Mentor engineers and reinforce strong engineering fundamentals across the team.
Required Skills
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering or science field with 12+ years of relevant experience; Master's with 10+ years; or 16+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• 10+ years of structural analysis using both FEA and hand calculations.
• Experience with FEA and pre/post processing software, preferably Femap with Nastran.
• 5+ years of structural analysis on aerospace, spacecraft, or mechanical systems, including linear and nonlinear simulation.
• Experience with vibration, shock, fatigue, deployment, and structural test environments.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
Desired Skills
• Experience as a lead engineer, project engineer, or IPT lead.
• Knowledge of system level hardware design and development, payload level integration and test, and risk mitigation for space environments.
• Familiarity with manufacturing and fabrication operations in a program team setting.
• Scripting or computational programming in Python or MATLAB.
