We are seeking a MUMPS Software Engineer to enhance and sustain applications within the Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role focuses on MUMPS routines, FileMan data structures, List Manager workflows, and XML data exchange. You will own assigned enhancements and defect corrections through testing and release support, working directly with our Principal MUMPS Architect on designs and complex issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Develop, modify, debug, and maintain MUMPS routines that implement approved enhancements and correct application defects.

•    Trace routine calls, globals, and data dependencies to investigate issues, identify affected functionality, and recommend corrections.

•    Implement approved FileMan changes to files, fields, subfiles, and cross-references; use appropriate APIs and validation to maintain data integrity.

•    Maintain and enhance List Manager screens, actions, and associated routines; troubleshoot selection, navigation, refresh, and workflow behavior.

•    Implement and troubleshoot XML parsing, generation, and mappings to FileMan records and subfiles within the established application framework.

•    Develop and execute unit tests; support integration, regression, user acceptance, and release validation, including error conditions and related functionality.

•    Follow established source control and peer review practices; prepare technical notes, test results, release documentation, and deployment and backout information.

•    Collaborate with the Principal Architect, analysts, and testers to clarify requirements, estimate assigned changes, resolve defects, and support delivery.

•    Follow established coding, configuration management, security, and data-handling standards.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

•    3+ years of MUMPS software development experience for production applications, including writing, modifying, testing, and debugging routines.

•    Proficiency with MUMPS program flow, local variables and globals, subscripted data, string processing, error handling, and locking.

•    Practical FileMan development experience with data dictionaries, fields, subfiles, and cross-references, including retrieving and updating records through FileMan APIs.

•    Working knowledge of List Manager screens, actions, and supporting MUMPS routines, with the ability to investigate and modify existing functionality.

•    Experience reading XML and implementing or troubleshooting XML parsing, generation, or data mappings.

•    Ability to debug MUMPS routines, inspect globals, investigate code and data issues, implement and test corrections, use source control and defect tracking, and clearly explain technical findings.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS DESIRED:

•    Experience developing or maintaining VistA applications, including changes to routines, FileMan structures, or List Manager workflows.

•    Prior experience supporting VA applications or projects and working within established development, review, and release processes.

•    Experience with complex FileMan data dictionaries, nested subfiles, indexes, or XML schemas (XSDs).

•    Experience supporting software patches, release validation, deployment documentation, and backout procedures.

•    Experience enhancing or troubleshooting List Manager screens, actions, and supporting MUMPS routines.

EDUCATION:

•    Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.

CLEARANCE:

•    Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

WORK LOCATION:
