Job Description
Full Stack Software Engineer
Location: Remote (EST or CST)
Clearance: Clearable US Citizen
Overview
Our client is hiring a Full Stack Software Engineer to build high-quality, high-performance product software across the application stack. This is a hands-on engineering role on a lean, high-ownership team building a threat detection and analytical SaaS platform used in national security, public safety, and critical infrastructure environments.
You will work across backend services, data, browser experiences, integrations, and the surrounding engineering system. The role is intentionally broad: we want engineers who can take a well-framed story, think through the design, implement it cleanly, test it thoroughly, and stay engaged through production use.
This is not a cowboy-coding role and it is not a narrow ticket-taking role. We value engineers who design before coding, communicate early, follow team conventions, welcome review, and care about whether the software is understandable, measurable, secure, and useful after it ships.
What You'll Own
- End-to-end feature delivery: work from executable stories and acceptance criteria through design, implementation, testing, review, deployment, and follow-through in production.
- Backend services: build and maintain APIs, application services, and web functionality using C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Web API, .NET MVC, Razor, and related patterns.
- Data and search: design reliable interactions with SQL Server, Redis, Elasticsearch, and other data stores, with attention to data quality, performance, concurrency, and operational behavior.
- Browser experiences: implement clear, responsive interfaces using JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, CSS/SASS, and the team's established front-end patterns; debug behavior across supported browsers.
- Integrations: work with third-party APIs and services using HTTP, JSON, authentication, error handling, retries, and clear contracts that remain diagnosable when dependencies fail.
- Quality engineering: write meaningful unit, integration, and service-level tests; use test failures as information; and help prevent regressions rather than relying on late manual discovery.
- Performance and scale: reason about latency, throughput, capacity, caching, query behavior, and failure modes as features move from development into real use.
- Secure implementation: apply sound security practices around identity, authorization, input handling, secrets, data access, dependencies, logging, and safe error behavior.
- Cross-functional execution: collaborate directly with Product Delivery, UI/UX, Automation, Applied AI/ML, security, and other engineers to reduce ambiguity and deliver cohesive capabilities.
- Continuous improvement: strengthen shared patterns, documentation, tooling, and responsible AI-assisted development practices when they improve quality or developer effectiveness.
Outcomes We Expect in the First Six Months
- You are contributing meaningful stories across the stack and can move work from clear requirements to production without avoidable handoffs or rework.
- Your code fits the team's conventions, is reviewed constructively, and is supported by tests that give the team confidence to change the system.
- You have developed working fluency with the core product architecture, data stores, deployment environment, and the operational concerns that shape implementation choices.
- The features you own are observable and supportable, with sensible logging, error handling, performance awareness, and clear follow-through after release.
- You are helping the team reduce ambiguity and improve delivery by asking good questions, communicating trade-offs early, and sharing useful technical context.
- You use AI-assisted development tools with good judgment, validating output and protecting security, quality, and the team's ownership of the codebase.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional experience building and operating production web applications or services as a full stack, backend, or closely related software engineer.
- Strong hands-on experience with C#, .NET Core, ASP.NET Web API, .NET MVC/Razor, or comparable server-side frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience working with relational data, SQL, and at least one complementary data or search technology such as Redis or Elasticsearch.
- Working proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, CSS/SASS, browser debugging, and the practical realities of implementing web user experiences.
- Experience designing and consuming HTTP/JSON APIs, integrating third-party services, and handling authentication, errors, retries, and operational diagnostics.
- Comfort writing automated tests and working in a continuous integration environment; you see tests as part of implementation, not a separate phase after coding.
- Good understanding of software security fundamentals and the ability to make sensible trade-offs around authorization, input validation, secrets, data handling, and dependencies.
- Ability to think about performance, capacity, maintainability, and failure modes in addition to making the happy path work.
- Clear communication, low ego, curiosity, and the willingness to ask questions, over-communicate when it matters, and accept that good teammates will change your code.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience deploying and operating applications on Microsoft Azure, including App Service, Functions, Storage, identity, and supporting resources.
- Experience with SQL Server, Redis, Elasticsearch, and the performance or operational challenges of data-intensive applications.
- Experience with TypeScript, modern front-end patterns, reusable components, or browser-based applications with rich asynchronous interactions.
- Familiarity with Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or comparable CI/CD and release tooling.
- Experience developing services in an n-tier or service-oriented architecture and applying practical design patterns without over-engineering.
- Experience building security, intelligence, analytics, GovTech, or other high-trust products where correctness and operational context matter.
- Experience integrating AI-assisted development tools into a software workflow with appropriate validation, data handling, and human review.
Who This Role Is For
You are a thoughtful builder. You like to understand the problem before reaching for code, and you are comfortable spending time on design so implementation is clearer and rework is lower. You take pride in high-quality, tested, measurable software, but you do not confuse perfectionism with progress.
You are pleasant to work with, direct without being dismissive, and willing to improve the team without finger-pointing. You can suggest an idea, hear that it is not the right one, and keep collaborating. You are grateful when a test or teammate exposes a flaw because the goal is a better product, not personal credit.
