The specialist also helps implement web interfaces, establishes usability and accessibility acceptance criteria, supports user validation, and improves the program’s user collaboration platform.

This position is remote, with Chicago-area candidates preferred.

Note: By applying to this position, you acknowledge and consent to having your resume included in an active competitive government contract bid.

Duties & Responsibilities

The UI/UX Specialist will:
  • Plan and conduct user research with mission owners, operational users, and other program stakeholders.
  • Analyze user needs, business processes, pain points, accessibility considerations, and mission workflows.
  • Translate research findings and functional requirements into user flows, journey maps, wireframes, mockups, and interactive prototypes.
  • Design intuitive and accessible interfaces for complex accession-processing and mission-support workflows.
  • Develop and maintain reusable UI components, interaction patterns, style guidance, and design-system documentation.
  • Collaborate with requirements analysts to incorporate usability and accessibility considerations into user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Work with software developers to translate approved designs into functional web interfaces.
  • Assist with front-end implementation and provide design guidance throughout development.
  • Review implemented interfaces for visual accuracy, usability, responsiveness, consistency, and accessibility.
  • Define testable usability and accessibility acceptance criteria for new capabilities and interface changes.
  • Conduct accessibility evaluations using manual reviews, automated testing tools, keyboard testing, and assistive-technology testing as appropriate.
  • Support compliance with applicable Section 508 requirements and Government-approved accessibility standards.
  • Plan and facilitate usability testing, prototype reviews, sprint demonstrations, and user-validation sessions.
  • Document user feedback, identify recurring usability concerns, and recommend prioritized improvements.
  • Support user acceptance testing and verify that delivered interfaces meet approved requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Collaborate with development and testing teams to identify, document, prioritize, and resolve usability and accessibility defects.
  • Improve the usability, accessibility, navigation, and organization of the user collaboration platform.
  • Support responsive design across approved desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile environments, as applicable.
  • Contribute interface guidance and visual content to user guides, job aids, release notes, and training materials.
  • Maintain design files, research findings, accessibility results, prototypes, and supporting documentation in approved repositories.
  • Participate in Agile planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, demonstrations, retrospectives, and release-readiness activities.
  • Promote user-centered design, inclusive design, and continuous improvement throughout the software-development lifecycle.
