Systems Engineer (Senior)

Description:
Hybrid in Ashburn, VA or Gaithersburg, MD Our client seeks a Systems Engineer who understands how complex cloud-hosted software systems fit together to deliver mission-critical capabilities for the federal government. This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and resilient systems that support national security and defense missions.

Responsibilities:

• Design and architect cloud-native solutions that meet federal security requirements
• Implement and configure cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for high-availability systems
• Develop automation scripts and tools to streamline deployment and operations
• Collaborate with software developers, network engineers, and security teams to ensure system integration
• Monitor system performance and implement proactive maintenance strategies
• Ensure compliance with federal standards (FedRAMP, NIST, FISMA)
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 7+ years of experience in systems engineering or cloud infrastructure
• Deep knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP cloud platforms
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture
• Strong understanding of networking concepts and security best practices
• Excellent communication and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
• Experience with DevSecOps practices
• Knowledge of federal acquisition regulations (FAR)
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
