Job Description
Contingent upon contract award. Anticipated start: December 27, 2026. 2 openings.
About the role
Are you a retired or former Navy Electronics Technician (ET) who has worked aircraft carrier topside antennas? This job was written for you.
D9Tech is seeking two senior aircraft carrier antenna subject matter experts to serve on the Navy's Antenna Maintenance Assistance Team (AMAT) for CVNs, in coordination with Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic (CNAL). You will assess the carrier's topside antennas (communication, radar/sensor, and electronic warfare) at the start and end of each ship availability, test communication antennas end to end from the radio, transmitter, or receiver back to the antenna, and train Ship's Force technicians to repair what you find.
This is hands-on topside antenna work: climbing masts and platforms, inspecting mounts, connectors, and grounding, running PMS-based tests, and writing up the results. It is not a network or help desk IT role.
What you'll do
- Schedule and coordinate antenna assessments with CNAL and Ship's Force (up to 3 per year)
- Build electronic assessment booklets and test plans based on PMS requirements
- Write a ship-specific assessment report within 10 working days of each assessment
- Use the Topside EM Control Measures Drawing (SEMCIP) as the assessment baseline
- Test communication antennas end to end, from the radio, transmitter, or receiver to the antenna
- Inspect antennas and mounts for corrosion, damage, missing or ferrous hardware, connector preservation, and grounding
- Support MIL-STD-1310 bonding and grounding
- Instruct Ship's Force (ET, IT, CT, FC, ST ratings) on repairs and maintenance practices
- Update the CSMP using MM0001 files
- Brief senior Navy military and civilian leadership on findings
Required qualifications
- 10+ years briefing senior military and civilian personnel aboard ship and in government facilities
- 10+ years drafting standard naval messages, briefs, reports, databases, and spreadsheets on aircraft carrier antenna assessment issues
- 5+ years providing training, analysis, problem resolution, and technical assistance to aircraft carrier personnel on antenna maintenance processes and policy
- 5+ years of fluent Microsoft Office use (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- U.S. citizenship
- Active SECRET clearance at time of application. Candidates who are clearance eligible only, or whose clearance is not currently active, will not be considered.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a CAC
Preferred
- Retired or former Navy ET (Chief or above preferred) with carrier topside antenna experience, such as antenna/topside work center supervisor, LPO, or prior AMAT or maintenance assist team member
- IT, CT, FC, or ST ratings considered only with hands-on topside antenna maintenance experience
- Working knowledge of COMUSFLTFORCOMINST 4790.3 (JFMM), MIL-STD-1310 bonding and grounding, NSTM Chapter 631, and NAVSEA S9AA0-AB-010
- Familiarity with SEMCIP, PMS/3-M, and CSMP/MM0001 processes
Physical requirements and travel
- Must be able to walk the ship and climb ladders, masts, and outside platforms; this role involves physical work at height
- Assessments are performed pierside
- Travel up to roughly 6 trips per year of about 14 days each to San Diego, CA, Bremerton/Everett, WA, and Yokosuka, Japan
- Travel expenses are reimbursed
