Job Description
BOAB VENTURES
Electronic Packaging Mechanical Engineer (Avionics)
Location: Onsite at one of three client sites: Chantilly, VA; Palm Bay, FL; or Carlsbad, CA
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance. Active TS/SCI preferred.
About the Role
BOAB Ventures is hiring an Electronic Packaging Mechanical Engineer for a defense prime building avionics systems. You will follow the product from concept through hardware integration and test, working with designers, thermal and structural analysts, systems engineers, program managers, and customer counterparts.
You will own the mechanical engineering work behind rugged electronics assemblies: design, analysis, documentation, fabrication, assembly, and qualification to spec. Schedules are tight and the technical bar is high. A strong background packaging avionics electronics is the key to this role.
What You Will Do
• Create complex mechanical designs and layouts for multiple products, working from high level requirements and deriving lower level requirements as needed.
• Package circuit cards, connectors, and cables, and integrate and validate them in rugged ground, avionics, or space environments.
• Develop, integrate, and validate mechanical, electro mechanical, and opto mechanical designs.
• Support thermal, fluid, structural, and power analyses and offer solutions based on the results.
• Support prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of designs.
• Design additively manufactured parts, machined parts, weldments, sheet metal parts, and cable assemblies.
• Develop design control documentation.
• Work with outside vendors to source parts, and with cross functional teams to develop new solutions.
Required Skills
• Bachelor's degree in engineering with 4+ years of relevant experience; Master's with 2+ years; or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Demonstrated experience packaging electronics for rugged environments.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
Desired Skills
• Prior experience packaging electronics for avionics platforms (strongly desired).
• 3+ years in mechanical design, requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, and product documentation.
• 2+ years of 3D CAD in Creo, CATIA, NX, or SolidWorks.
• Design for and testing to military environments (temperature, vibration, shock).
• ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
• DFM and DFMA experience, including machined, plastic, and sheet metal part design.
• Familiarity with EVMS cost and schedule practices.
Additional Details
