Job Description
BOAB VENTURES
Thermal Analyst, Electronics Packaging (Mechanical Engineer)
Location: Onsite at one of three client sites: Chantilly, VA; Palm Bay, FL; or Carlsbad, CA
Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance. Active TS/SCI preferred.
About the Role
BOAB Ventures is hiring a Mechanical Engineer who specializes in thermal analysis for a defense prime's military avionics group. The team builds next generation technology for military aircraft with the speed of a small company and the depth of a large one.
You will own thermal analysis for avionics electronics from concept through hardware integration and test. You will use first order heat transfer and fluid mechanics along with conjugate heat transfer CFD to predict thermal behavior at the system and component level. This role fits a self driven engineer who can take high level requirements and run with them.
What You Will Do
• Perform thermal analysis of avionics electronics using first order thermodynamics and fluid mechanics along with CFD simulation.
• Take projects from high level requirements to completion, deriving requirements and making sound technical assumptions where needed.
• Question requirements when necessary to get to the real product need.
• Propose multiple conceptual design solutions and document design intent clearly.
• Contribute directly to PDR, CDR, and TRR milestones, and provide schedule, cost, and technical input at the subsystem level.
• Work across mechanical design, systems, operations, quality, and procurement.
• Flag issues and risks early and report status to team leadership.
• Direct and review the work of newer engineers, designers, and technicians, and help onboard new hires and interns.
• Identify and submit process improvements that make daily work better.
Required Skills
• Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience; Master's with 2+ years; or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Strong first order thermal analysis skills for conduction and convection cooling systems.
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
Desired Skills
• 2+ years of thermal analysis for electronics packaging, including design for and testing to military environments (temperature, vibration, shock).
• FloTHERM experience. Ansys Icepak, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or similar CFD tools are also a good fit.
• 3D CAD experience in Creo, CATIA, NX, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar.
• Hands on capability, including integration of mechanisms and products.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, and comfort working on multi disciplinary teams.
Additional Details
