Job Description

Position Overview

A premier technology and management consulting firm is seeking a Senior AI Software Engineer to join its expanding Artificial Intelligence and Automation practice. This is a direct-hire, full-time position with the client.

In this senior technical role, you will be a key contributor responsible for architecting, building, and deploying sophisticated AI-driven solutions, specializing in generative AI, large language model (LLM) applications, and autonomous agentic systems. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering, data science, and cloud teams to deliver secure, highly scalable, and mission-critical AI capabilities for federal clients. Additionally, you will help shape technical direction, champion engineering best practices, and provide mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers.

Core Responsibilities

Generative AI & LLM Engineering: Spearhead the design, prototyping, and optimization of AI capabilities utilizing advanced generative patterns, retrieval architectures (RAG), precise prompt/context engineering, and secure API integrations.
Agentic AI Architecture: Own the full development lifecycle for autonomous AI agents, encompassing model evaluation, multi-agent orchestration, tool/function calling, response synthesis, and rigorous performance evaluation.
Technical Leadership & Governance: Enforce robust software engineering principles to ensure systems are highly maintainable, testable, and scalable. Conduct peer code reviews, define reusable design patterns, and responsibly implement AI-assisted development tools to safely accelerate product delivery.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Align with data engineers, cloud architects, UI/UX designers, and mission stakeholders to translate complex organizational objectives into production-ready automation and AI solutions.
Cloud Architecture & DevSecOps: Architect and automate secure deployment workflows using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD pipelines, containerized environments, and cloud-native architectures to guarantee repeatable deployments.
System Optimization: Monitor post-production system behavior, conduct deep performance tuning, and implement industry-standard scalability and reliability practices.
Compliance & Documentation: Produce clean, thoroughly documented code that aligns with strict industry standards and federal development guidelines to maintain reproducible environments.
Mentorship & Innovation: Stay at the forefront of emerging AI/ML advancements, agentic frameworks, and evolving model capabilities. Mentor team members and actively contribute to shared engineering repositories, technical design documentation, and internal reviews.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, or a highly technical, related discipline.
Professional Experience: 7+ years of hands-on software development experience, featuring a proven track record of shipping AI/ML, generative AI, or LLM-backed applications into production or staging environments.
AI/LLM Technical Depth: Demonstrated expertise building generative AI software, integrating LLMs, configuring complex tool/function calls, and executing model evaluations or prompt optimization strategies.
Agentic Frameworks: Hands-on experience designing or deploying agentic workflows using ecosystems such as Agent2Agent Protocol, Bedrock Agents, Mastra, CrewAI, Strands, AgentCore, LangChain, or LangGraph.
Model Platforms: Comprehensive understanding of leading commercial and enterprise model environments, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Vertex AI.
TypeScript Ecosystem: Strong proficiency in TypeScript, alongside practical experience with tools and frameworks like Nx, Next.js, Mastra, Vercel AI SDK, Playwright, Jest, and Vite.
Python Ecosystem: Solid proficiency in Python, including familiarity with modern libraries and utilities such as uv, Pydantic, FastAPI, CrewAI, LangChain, LangGraph, and Unstructured.
Development Tools: Experience leveraging VS Code paired with advanced AI extensions like Cline and Claude Code.
DevSecOps Foundations: General familiarity building and maintaining CI/CD automated deployment pipelines (such as GitLab CI).
Clearance & Citizenship: Due to the nature of the federal client base, U.S. Citizenship is strictly required, along with the eligibility to successfully obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Attributes & Skills

A proactive, experimental mindset regarding cutting-edge AI breakthroughs, combined with a strong dedication to delivering measurable, high-impact solutions.
Cross-functional exposure to adjacent technical domains, such as data engineering, data science, modern UI/UX design, and platform/cloud infrastructure engineering.
Experience provisioning cloud-native infrastructure using IaC technologies like Terraform, OpenTofu, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation templates.
Prior exposure to federal compliance frameworks, including federal cybersecurity guidelines, RMF, FedRAMP, or related regulatory requirements.
