About the Role:
The Controls Engineer develops, reviews, integrates, and supports instrumentation and control systems for existing nuclear facility infrastructure and new construction projects. The role requires at least 10 years of controls engineering experience, including at least 5 years in the nuclear field, and hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens control platforms. The position focuses on legacy balance-of-plant systems and electromechanical equipment, including control system design recovery, troubleshooting, modernization, and integration, with consideration for constructability, operability, and maintainability.

Responsibilities:
• Develop, review, and document instrumentation and control system designs for existing nuclear facility infrastructure and new construction projects, with a focus on legacy balance-of-plant systems and electromechanical equipment. Responsibilities include:
o Evaluate and select controllers, instrumentation, control panels, and interface components using vendor data, existing system information, and project requirements.
o Apply technical reference materials, applicable codes, site engineering standards, and nuclear facility quality and configuration management requirements to controls design and documentation.
o Develop, configure, review, and troubleshoot programmable logic controller (PLC) logic using Allen-Bradley or Siemens platforms, including equipment sequences, permissive, interlocks, and alarms.
o Develop technical specifications for control systems, instrumentation, control panels, and interfaces to legacy balance-of-plant and electromechanical equipment.
o Prepare control narratives, sequences of operation, input/output (I/O) lists, and design documentation that records system requirements, assumptions, interface definitions, and technical decisions.
o Develop and review control schematics, loop diagrams, wiring and termination drawings, control panel layouts, and equipment interface details.
o Review designs for constructability and coordinate controls installation and integration requirements with electrical, mechanical, process, and construction personnel.
o Evaluate compatibility between new controls and legacy balance-of-plant systems, including relay-based controls, motor starters, actuators, and other electromechanical equipment.
o Incorporate operability and maintainability into controls designs; develop test procedures and support functional testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting with site personnel.
• Evaluate existing control system configurations and equipment conditions using drawings, field data, and coordination with site personnel and subject matter experts; identify integration constraints and modernization needs.
• Perform design recovery by reconciling existing installations, control logic, and equipment interfaces with available records and reconstructing or updating controls documentation to reflect verified field conditions.

Requirements:
• BS in Electrical Engineering with a controls and instrumentation background, and at least 10 years of controls engineering experience, including at least 5 years in the nuclear field.
• Hands-on experience and comfort working with Allen-Bradley or Siemens PLC platforms, including programming, configuration, troubleshooting, and integration.
• Ability to evaluate, troubleshoot, and integrate legacy balance-of-plant control systems and electromechanical equipment, including relay-based controls, motor starters, actuators, and instrumentation.
• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Successful drug screening.
• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge.
• Requires a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience modernizing legacy controls while maintaining compatibility with existing balance-of-plant equipment.
• Familiarity with CAD tools for control schematics and panel layouts, specifically AutoCAD Electrical, and human-machine interface (HMI) or supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) configuration software.
• Active Q Clearance.

Location/Work Arrangement:
• This position is fully remote.
• Typical work schedule will be Mon.-Fri. 8-hour days (5/8 schedule).
• No travel required.

Benefits:
