Job Description:
This role is an on-site, senior-level Network Operations Specialist position supporting future operations and network planning at Kaneohe Bay. You will provide advanced network operations expertise to evaluate current and emerging requirements, understand complex network environments, and translate operational needs into executable network plans. The position combines hands-on technical depth with forward-looking planning, requiring you to anticipate second- and third-order effects of network changes, operate independently, and help shape repeatable processes that support a maturing operational environment.

Responsibilities:
Monitor network infrastructure, respond promptly to alerts and events, and take appropriate action to maintain network health and availability.
Manage incident resolution from initial detection through closure, handling escalations as needed to ensure timely restoration of services.
Coordinate repairs and direct remote teams to maintain service continuity across multiple sites and environments.
Support future operations planning by assessing upcoming network requirements and determining their technical and operational impacts.
Leverage strong network operations experience to recommend practical approaches for network implementation, sustainment, upgrades, and modernization.
Review and interpret network documentation and topology diagrams to identify dependencies, performance issues, risks, and downstream impacts of proposed changes.
Support and optimize network environments with a strong emphasis on Cisco technologies, particularly Cisco Catalyst platforms and related tools.
Evaluate proposed network changes with an understanding of second- and third-order effects across interconnected systems, locations, users, and mission requirements.
Coordinate technical requirements and plans across engineering, operations, project leadership, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and clarity.
Apply change management and project management principles so network initiatives are properly planned, communicated, tracked, and executed.
Identify potential technical or operational roadblocks before they affect execution and proactively develop alternative courses of action.
Assist in developing and refining processes, responsibilities, and workflows for future operations as the organization and mission continue to evolve.
Operate with significant independence, taking ownership of assigned requirements and tasks without requiring constant direction from leadership.
Communicate complex network requirements, risks, and potential impacts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Support data center operations as required, contributing to overall infrastructure reliability and performance.
Document daily activities thoroughly and use reporting and ticketing tools to track outstanding issues and resolutions.
Notify appropriate government representatives about incidents when necessary, following established communication and escalation procedures.
Remain flexible and adjust priorities and approaches as mission requirements, operational priorities, and the scope of responsibilities evolve.

Essential Skills:
At least 8+ years of professional networking experience in enterprise or Department of Defense network operations and engineering environments.
Strong background in network operations with advanced understanding of routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.
Ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex network topology and architecture diagrams, including understanding dependencies and risk points.
Hands-on experience supporting Cisco networking environments, with strong preference for experience with Cisco Catalyst technologies and Cisco Catalyst Center.
Experience with software-defined networking (SDN) and modern campus architectures such as Software-Defined Access (SDA).
Proven experience supporting the planning and execution of network changes, upgrades, migrations, and modernization efforts.
Demonstrated project management experience within complex IT and network environments, including coordinating multiple stakeholders.
Demonstrated change management experience, ensuring that network changes are documented, communicated, and executed in a controlled manner.
Ability to understand and articulate how an individual network change may affect the larger enterprise and operational environment, including second- and third-order impacts.
Current Secret security clearance.
Relevant security certification such as CompTIA Security+ / SecurityX or CISSP, or the ability to obtain an IAT level III certification within 6 months upon hire.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Proven ability to operate independently, prioritize tasks, and drive requirements to completion in a dynamic environment.

Additional Skills and Qualifications:
CCNP certification strongly preferred.
CCNA certification acceptable with the ability to obtain required certification within 6 months of hire.
CISSP certification is a plus for demonstrating advanced security knowledge.
CompTIA Security+ / SecurityX certification is highly valued for meeting security compliance requirements.
Microsoft Azure Fundamentals certification is a plus, reflecting familiarity with cloud-based networking concepts.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus and supports formal project management practices.
Experience with network topology design and diagram building, including documentation of complex environments.
Experience forecasting future network needs and planning for upgrades and modernization based on evolving mission requirements.
Familiarity with enterprise or Department of Defense environments, including working within structured processes and compliance frameworks.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including operations, engineering, leadership, and mission-focused stakeholders.

Work Environment:
This position is fully on-site in Kaneohe, Hawaii, supporting a network operations and planning environment that directly interfaces with Marine Corps activities. You will collaborate closely with technical team members and individuals in uniform, working within a structured, mission-driven setting. The work involves active engagement with enterprise-class network infrastructure, including Cisco Catalyst and related technologies, as well as the use of ticketing, reporting, and documentation tools. The environment is dynamic and operationally focused, requiring flexibility to adjust to evolving mission priorities and timelines.
