  • Serves as an auditor in the Internal Review office, performing reviews, studies, and internal examinations of accounting and operational functions, and assisting higher-graded auditors with full-scale, more complex audits. At the GS-7/9 (developmental) levels, the incumbent works closely with senior auditors, receiving mentoring and on-the-job training in Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), internal controls, and DoD/Army/Army National Guard policies.

  • Examines processes, documents, and reports to determine whether performance has been in accordance with accounting principles, operating procedures, and applicable regulations. Observes operating practices, reviews reports from internal and external sources, evaluates findings, and recommends areas and types of corrective or improvement actions. Assists in developing formal audit reports and recommendations for submission to the United States Property and Fiscal Officer.

Drafts findings identifying causative situations and recommends corrective action; participates in discussions of findings with activity personnel; explains results; and performs follow-up on agreed-to findings and recommendations.

  • At higher grades, particularly GS-11 (journey) and GS-12 (senior), the incumbent independently plans and conducts complete audit assignments, designs audit procedures, analyzes financial and operational data, and develops findings and recommendations. As experience is gained, auditors present results to management officials and, when appropriate, senior leaders. Senior auditors lead more complex audits, provide technical input on internal control and risk topics, coordinate with multiple directorates, and may oversee small audit teams and follow-up activities.
