Job Description
Senior Software Systems Engineer (MBSE/Cameo) - TS/SCI Required
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Senior Software Systems Engineer with extensive experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), SysML, and Cameo Systems Modeler to support the development of complex, software-intensive ground systems. This position is focused on the front end of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture development, system decomposition, and software requirements definition.
This is not a traditional hardware, radar, RF, electrical engineering, or signal processing-focused systems engineering role. The ideal candidate will have a strong software systems engineering background and experience transforming mission and system requirements into actionable software architectures and development-ready engineering artifacts.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain system architectures for complex ground and mission systems.
Translate operational needs and system requirements into software-focused architectures and designs.
Perform requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, and traceability from system-level requirements to software implementation requirements.
Create and maintain MBSE artifacts using SysML and Cameo Systems Modeler.
Collaborate with software development teams to ensure architectural alignment and successful implementation.
Develop sequence diagrams, activity diagrams, block definition diagrams (BDD), internal block diagrams (IBD), and other system architecture artifacts.
Support software integration planning and system verification activities.
Create and manage technical specifications, interface definitions, and requirements documentation.
Ensure requirements traceability throughout the full engineering lifecycle.
Participate in technical reviews, architecture assessments, and engineering planning activities.
Required Qualifications:
Active TS/SCI clearance.
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience supporting software-intensive systems, ground systems, mission systems, or command and control environments.
Strong experience in software systems engineering and system architecture development.
Hands-on experience with MBSE methodologies and SysML.
Advanced proficiency with Cameo Systems Modeler.
Experience performing requirements decomposition, allocation, and traceability.
Experience developing and managing technical specifications.
Ability to decompose system requirements into software requirements.
Experience supporting software development teams through architecture and modeling efforts.
Demonstrated ability to build system models and architectures from the ground up.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Ground System Engineering and Ground System Architecture.
Experience supporting Command and Control (C2) systems.
Experience supporting mission systems and software-intensive defense platforms.
Experience with software integration planning and execution.
Knowledge of digital engineering frameworks and MBSE-driven development environments.
Experience supporting large Department of Defense or Intelligence Community programs.
What We're Looking For:
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in:
Software Systems Engineering
Ground Systems Engineering
Ground System Architecture
Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
SysML Modeling
Cameo Systems Modeler
Requirements Engineering
Requirements Flow-Down and Decomposition
Requirements Traceability
Specification Development and Management
System Architecture Development
Software Integration Planning
Sequence Diagram Development
Activity Diagram Development
Block Definition Diagrams (BDD)
Internal Block Diagrams (IBD)
Supporting software development through architecture and modeling artifacts
Ideal Background:
Candidates are most likely to be successful if they have experience supporting:
Ground Systems
Command and Control (C2) Systems
Mission Systems
Software-Centric Defense Platforms
Digital Engineering Initiatives
MBSE-Centric Development Programs
Software Architecture and Systems Integration Efforts
Important Considerations:
This role requires an engineer who can create new architectures, models, and engineering artifacts rather than simply maintaining existing ones. Successful candidates should be capable of developing MBSE products from scratch, performing system-to-software decomposition, and producing engineering artifacts that directly support software development teams.
Candidates with primarily hardware, radar, RF, signal processing, or electrical engineering backgrounds may not be the best fit unless they can clearly demonstrate significant experience in software systems architecture, software requirements engineering, and MBSE-driven development.
Clearance Requirement:
An active TS/SCI clearance is strongly preferred. Candidates with existing TS/SCI eligibility will be prioritized due to program accessibility and mission requirements.
