Job Description

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a world leader in proven, reliable remotely piloted aircraft and tactical reconnaissance radars, as well as advanced high-resolution surveillance systems.

Join our Engineering Services team as a Project Manager supporting the International Trade Compliance (ITC) organization. In this high-impact role, you will help shape and strengthen the processes that support the global movement of aerospace and defense products, technical data, and materials.

You will analyze technical product data and apply U.S. export and import regulations to determine classifications under the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Schedule B, and the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS). A key priority will be reducing the existing classification backlog while helping to develop and maintain a sustainable, efficient process for managing future classification requirements.

This position offers the opportunity to partner closely with ITC, Engineering, Configuration Management, Information Technology Services, Data Management, Contracts, and other key stakeholders. Your work will help inform licensing and permit requirements, customs duties and tariffs, export declarations, sourcing strategies, and other critical business decisions.

The successful candidate will bring relevant experience with careful analytical judgment, technical curiosity, and the ability to develop clear, well-supported written rationales. Success in this role also requires effective collaboration across Engineering disciplines and strong partnership in Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Legal/Compliance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Determine export and import jurisdiction and classification for goods and technologies, including:
    • HTS/HTSUS and Schedule B codes
    • U.S. Munitions List (USML) categories
    • Export Control Classification Numbers (ECCN)
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and product descriptions to understand technical characteristics and functionality.
  • Coordinate with ITC, Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain, and Legal/Compliance to obtain necessary technical information for accurate classification.
  • Document classification decisions, rationale, and methodologies to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Participate as a classification subject matter resource in cross functional meetings regarding sourcing options, design strategies, and landed cost/duty impact.
  • Identify and assess project issues and develop recommendations for solutions to meet productivity, quality and customer satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive and export-controlled information.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

We recognize and appreciate the value and contributions of individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.

  • Typically requires a Bachelors in Business Administration or related discipline and at least six years of progressively complex experience in project administration. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience reading, understanding, and analyzing technical products (e.g., drawings, CAD, specifications, design reviews, bills of material, data sheets) relating to components, end-items, complex systems, or software.
  • Must demonstrate an extensive understanding of project management processes and procedures, planning and scheduling methods, and budget management as well as the ability to organize, schedule, and coordinate workloads to meet established milestones and budgets.
  • Must possess:
    • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to investigate unfamiliar products, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
    • Strong analytical, communication, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • The ability to initiate, plan and manage projects effectively.
    • The ability to work independently and lead in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance is required.
  • Experience in engineering disciplines.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or high technology manufacturing.
  • Experience with regulatory controls.
  • Participation in the classification training and qualification program is a condition of employment. The program includes classroom instruction, mentoring, and independent study, followed by practical assessments and examinations. Successful completion is required for independent classification work.
  • Ongoing classification activity and refresher training are required to maintain proficiency.
