Job Description

Position Type: Full-time, Non-exempt
Work Location: U.S. Army Dugway Proving Ground, Utah

Systems Application & Technologies, Inc. (SA-TECH) is a progressive and well-established Department of Defense (DoD) contractor specializing in Range operations and maintenance (O&M); weapons testing; facilities management; aerial, ground and seaborne targets O&M; technical, logistics and other engineering support; systems integration; electronics and communications maintenance services; and a growing cybersecurity business. We are highly focused and, among other efforts, currently operate a dozen active test and/or training ranges for the Army, Air Force and Navy. Our 35-year heritage is founded on supporting complex and diverse DoD programs and we’ve developed a standout reputation for providing the highest quality services, superior workmanship and cost-effective results while achieving complete customer satisfaction.

At Dugway Proving Ground (DPG), southwest of Salt Lake City Utah, SA-TECH supports the West Desert Test Center (WDTC), the nation’s designated Major Range Test Facility Base (MRTFB) for chemical and biological defense. The WDTC plans, conducts, evaluates, reports, and supports Chemical and Biological (CB) and non-CB testing efforts for the Department of Defense (DoD), other federal agencies, private industries, and foreign Governments (e.g., environmental assessment/impact evaluations, weapons and munitions demilitarization, chemical energetics/homemade explosive testing, unmanned systems testing, direct and indirect fire weapons testing, hazard assessments, and technical/logistical support of operations at DPG).

At DPG, SA-TECH is looking to hire an Environmental Testing Technician to serve as the MIL-STD 810 Expert, identifying and performing test methods that will replicate the environmental effects equipment will experience throughout service life.

Specific duties include (but are not limited to):
  • Plan, execute, and document environmental qualification tests in accordance with MIL-STD-810 and related industry standards.
    • Support the full environmental qualification lifecycle, including climatic and dynamic testing of aerospace, chemical and biological defense, explosive weapon systems, and industrial products.
    • Ensure all tests are conducted safely, accurately, and in compliance with customer and program requirements.
    • Manipulate several types of explosive devices, which require experience and certification for handling explosive munitions.
    • Work with several biological and chemical simulants.
  • Work with complex refrigeration systems, requiring handling and disposal of multiple refrigerants and EPA 608 Universal certification.
  • Ensure proper charging, recovery, and disposal methods of ozone depleting gases.
  • Analyze customer specifications, Statements of Work (SOW), and design requirements to determine applicable MIL-STD-810 test methods and tailoring, as well as developing detailed test plans, procedures, and schedules aligned with operational mission profiles.
  • Defining test parameters, tolerances, instrumentation, and acceptance criteria, and participate in technical reviews, readiness meetings, and risk assessments.
  • Configure environmental chambers and equipment such as temperature/humidity chambers, thermal shock systems, altitude chambers, and solar load equipment—and set up dynamic test systems including electrodynamic shakers and drop towers.
  • Design and implement proper fixturing and mounting for test articles.
  • Install and validate instrumentation such as thermocouples, accelerometers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Perform a wide range of climatic tests, including high/low temperature, humidity, thermal cycling, altitude, sand/dust, salt fog, icing, and solar radiation.
  • Conduct dynamic tests such as random and sine vibration, mechanical shock, drop, and acceleration testing, while monitoring test conditions, adjusting parameters to maintain tolerances, and performing in-situ operational checks of units under test (UUT).
  • Troubleshoot equipment and instrumentation issues, monitoring and recording test data using data acquisition systems, analyzing environmental and mechanical data for compliance, evaluating unit performance, and providing technical recommendations.
  • Compile and interpret vibration spectra, shock pulses, temperature profiles, and chamber performance curves, maintains detailed test logs, configuration records, calibration data, and environmental documentation, prepares formal qualification test reports with results and observations, and documents pre-test, interim, and post-test inspections of test articles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions:
