Job Description

Job #: 3047084

Apex Systems is currently hiring a Technical Advisor – Cyber / Infrastructure with a large federal client.

Project Details / Mission Supported:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Advisor with a Cybersecurity and/or Infrastructure background to support a large-scale Department of Defense (DoD) enterprise environment at Fort Meade, Maryland.
This is a technical advisory and consulting position rather than a hands-on engineering role. The Technical Advisor will leverage their technical expertise to support strategic planning, enterprise architecture, systems engineering guidance, modernization initiatives, and technical decision-making across complex DoD environments.

Candidates may bring expertise across areas including cybersecurity, Zero Trust, cloud technologies, enterprise networking, infrastructure, communications systems, data centers, or systems engineering. The ideal candidate will have enough technical depth to understand these environments while operating primarily from a planning, strategy, architecture, and advisory perspective.
This individual will work closely with government customers, technical teams, and other stakeholders to develop recommendations and roadmaps, create presentations and executive-level briefings, and communicate complex technical information to senior military and government leadership, including General Officers.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide technical leadership and strategic recommendations for enterprise IT, cybersecurity, infrastructure, systems engineering, and architecture initiatives.
• Analyze existing technology environments and recommend future-state architecture solutions aligned with organizational objectives and mission requirements.
• Support strategic planning and modernization efforts involving cloud technologies, cybersecurity, Zero Trust, enterprise networking, communications systems, infrastructure, and data center services.
• Develop and contribute to enterprise system architectures, technical designs, integration strategies, implementation roadmaps, CONOPS, and strategic planning documentation.
• Serve as a technical advisor and subject matter resource, providing expertise, guidance, and recommendations rather than performing day-to-day hands-on configuration or installation.
• Work directly with government customers, engineers, architects, operational teams, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into scalable technical strategies and recommendations.
• Review and contribute to technical proposals, engineering documentation, architectural assessments, and technology recommendations.
• Identify communication service requirements and translate operational needs into appropriate enterprise solutions.
• Support planning across both legacy and future-state technologies while ensuring alignment with leadership's vision and strategic objectives.
• Develop PowerPoint presentations, executive-level briefings, strategic reports, roadmaps, and technical recommendations for leadership.
• Present technical information, recommendations, and program updates to senior government and military leadership, including General Officers and Senior Executives.
• Support large-scale enterprise initiatives leveraging Agile, SAFe, Continuous Process Improvement (CPI), and ITIL service management methodologies.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to ensure mission alignment, operational effectiveness, and successful technology adoption.

Qualified candidates will have the following experience and skills:
• Active TS/SCI clearance.
• Current Security+ certification.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Relevant experience in enterprise IT, systems engineering, network/infrastructure architecture, cybersecurity, cloud technologies, or related technical disciplines.
• Experience supporting large-scale Department of Defense (DoD) or other highly regulated enterprise environments.
• Strong technical knowledge in one or more relevant areas, such as:
o Cybersecurity and Zero Trust
o Enterprise networking
o Cloud and hybrid cloud environments
o IT infrastructure
o Enterprise communications
o Data centers and server infrastructure
o Systems engineering and enterprise architecture
• Experience developing enterprise architectures, technical solutions, systems engineering strategies, integration plans, and/or technology modernization roadmaps.
• Strong knowledge of LAN, CAN, WAN, hybrid cloud environments, enterprise communications systems, data centers, server infrastructure, and large-scale networking architectures.
• Knowledge of DoD enterprise services, cybersecurity controls, communications platforms, network protection technologies, and data security best practices supporting mission-critical operations.
• Working knowledge of Joint Publication (JP) 5-0 and enterprise-level strategic planning methodologies.
• Working knowledge of CPI, SAFe, and ITIL 4 service management principles.
• Ability to translate complex technical information into clear recommendations for both technical and executive audiences.
• Experience developing and delivering executive briefings, PowerPoint presentations, strategic recommendations, technical reports, and roadmaps.
• Experience communicating with senior government or military leadership, including General Officers, Senior Executives, and key decision-makers.
• Experience authoring and/or reviewing CONOPS, technical documentation, engineering artifacts, training plans, strategic reports, and executive-level briefings.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively within a fast-paced DoD environment.

Education & Experience
Candidates may be considered at either of the following labor category levels:
LCAT 2
• Bachelor's degree + 8 years of relevant experience, OR

• Experience supporting enterprise communications infrastructure and network transformation programs.
• Background in strategic technology planning, architecture governance, and enterprise engineering.
