Structural Engineer III | Vehicle Structures | Static and Dynamic Analysis
Location: Colorado
Work Arrangement: On-site

Position Overview
We are seeking a Structural Engineer to perform structural analysis and support the design, integration, and testing of advanced weapon systems, ground vehicles, and test platforms.
This role focuses on analyzing metallic structures, welded and bolted joints, and components exposed to shock, vibration, and other demanding operating conditions. The engineer will use classical hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate structural performance and document results.
Candidates with backgrounds in automotive engineering, vehicle structures, heavy equipment, defense, or other industries involving complex structural analysis are encouraged to apply. Experience with both hand calculations and FEA is essential.
Responsibilities
Perform static and dynamic structural analysis using hand calculations and finite element analysis.
Analyze steel and aluminum structures, including welded and bolted connections.
Evaluate structural components exposed to vehicle shock, vibration, and demanding operating environments.
Perform joint analysis and assess structural integrity under applicable load conditions.
Analyze composite and additively manufactured structures when required.
Develop and document structural substantiation reports.
Support requirements definition, load development, design reviews, and structural integration.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Support the planning and execution of structural tests.
Evaluate designs and recommend improvements to meet structural performance and safety requirements.
Use engineering simulation tools to validate structural designs and support product development.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
Typically 6 or more years of relevant engineering experience.
Advanced understanding of structural analysis and design principles.
Experience performing static and dynamic analysis using classical hand calculations and FEA.
Experience analyzing steel and aluminum structures, welded joints, and bolted connections.
Experience analyzing components exposed to shock and vibration.
Experience with structural analysis tools such as FEMAP, MSC Patran, or NASTRAN.
Ability to prepare technical structural substantiation reports.
Experience working with multidisciplinary design and development teams.
Exposure to engineering requirements and load development.
Ability to obtain the required security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the automotive, defense, maritime, or heavy equipment industries.
Experience with vehicle structures, vehicle dynamics, suspension systems, or structural loads.
Knowledge of applicable AWS, AISC, ASTM, ABS, or Department of Defense design standards.
Experience analyzing structures in harsh dynamic or thermal environments.
Experience with composite materials or additively manufactured structures.
Familiarity with rocket plume loads.
Experience with FEMAP, NASTRAN, or LS-DYNA.
Knowledge of mechanical design, material selection, manufacturing, and production processes.
Experience with parametric design or model-based definition.
