Position Title: AI Security Specialist/SME
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid)
Salary Range: Up to $212,000/year
Position Description:
We are seeking an experienced AI Security Specialist/SME to join a dynamic government-focused team supporting the U.S. Small Business Administration. In this senior-level role, you will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of AI security programs, policies, and risk management strategies. Your expertise will ensure the secure, responsible, and compliant deployment of AI and machine learning systems across the agency. As a key technical leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners, providing strategic guidance on AI security challenges, emerging threats, and federal governance standards. Your work will directly contribute to safeguarding federal AI initiatives and advancing secure adoption of innovative AI technologies, including generative AI and large language models.

We are seeking an experienced AI Security Specialist/SME to join a dynamic government-focused team supporting the U.S. Small Business Administration. In this senior-level role, you will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of AI security programs, policies, and risk management strategies. Your expertise will ensure the secure, responsible, and compliant deployment of AI and machine learning systems across the agency. As a key technical leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners, providing strategic guidance on AI security challenges, emerging threats, and federal governance standards. Your work will directly contribute to safeguarding federal AI initiatives and advancing secure adoption of innovative AI technologies, including generative AI and large language models.
Top Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, AI, Data Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years in cybersecurity with extensive expertise in AI/ML security and risk assessment
- Deep knowledge of AI-specific threat vectors such as adversarial attacks, model poisoning, and data integrity threats
- Demonstrated familiarity with federal AI frameworks including NIST AI RMF, executive orders, and OMB guidance
- Proven ability to develop AI security policies, conduct risk assessments, and implement security controls for AI systems
- Experience working with data science and AI development teams to embed security best practices in workflows and pipelines
- Strong communication skills to effectively brief executive leadership and technical teams
Preferred Skills:
- Master's or Ph.D. in relevant field
- Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CAISS
- Experience with adversarial machine learning, AI red teaming, and cloud-based AI platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Prior federal agency experience, particularly supporting SBA or similar organizations
- Familiarity with AI fairness, transparency, privacy, and supply chain security considerations
