Job Description
MTSI is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer with deep expertise in Tactical Communications Systems to support AFLCMC/WA activities for advanced warfighting capabilities. The engineer will provide technical leadership in the development, integration, and assessment of secure, resilient, multi-band, and networked communications architectures for next-generation Air Force platforms and system-of-systems constructs. The selected candidate will guide engineering activities related to tactical datalinks, line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) communications, waveform development, anti-jam/low probability of intercept/low probability of detection (LPI/LPD) communications, networking standards, and cross-platform interoperability. The engineer will operate across organizational boundaries and security levels to deliver integrated, communications-enabled capabilities supporting future Air Force mission sets.
Key Responsibilities
• Guide systems engineering efforts focused on tactical communications systems, including waveform performance analysis, network architecture design, link budget assessments, and system-of-systems integration.
• Assess, develop, and validate communications architectures supporting fighter aircraft, advanced platforms, autonomous systems, and mission networking environments.
• Evaluate tactical datalinks such as Link-16, MADL, advanced waveforms, secure voice/data systems, and emerging tactical networking standards.
• Conduct engineering assessments of communications resilience, including anti-jam (AJ), LPI/LPD techniques, encryption, spectrum considerations, and contested-environment performance.
• Translate operational mission needs into communications system requirements, interface definitions, integration strategies, and acquisition documentation.
• Review contractor technical artifacts, interface documents, integration plans, and communication subsystem designs for feasibility, interoperability, and mission alignment.
• Prepare and deliver high-level technical briefings for senior acquisition leadership, summarizing performance trade-offs, risk assessments, and architectural recommendations.
• Facilitate and coordinate cross-functional teams to execute communications engineering reviews, test planning, and milestone activities.
• Support engineering activities across multiple security levels, including classified communications architectures and secure network environments.
• Assist with translating multi-platform operational partner needs into common engineering requirements, integration strategies, and acquisition documentation.
• Prepare and deliver executive-level briefs to senior DoD decision-makers, summarizing technical risks, design trade-offs, and international impacts.
• Coordinate with U.S. and allied engineering organizations to ensure interoperability, data exchange, configuration alignment, and common architecture frameworks.
• Support classified and multi-level engineering environments, performing analyses across mission, system, and subsystem levels.
Position Requirements
• Strong technical background in:
• Ability to synthesize complex communications engineering information into concise, decision-ready summaries.
• Proven ability to work across government, industry, and multi-level security environments.
• Ability to analyze and communicate technical impacts of capability release, alternative architectures, or downgraded configurations.
• Proven ability to prepare high-quality, decision-ready engineering products for senior acquisition leaders.
• Proven ability to work effectively across organizational and functional boundaries.
• Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex technical information into concise, decision-ready executive summaries.
• Ability to work efficiently across multiple security levels and collaboration environments.
• Experience coordinating and leading technical teams to successful completion of tasks.
Qualifications:
• Possess minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience
• Experience working in a DoW program or product acquisition office or environment
• Have no less than three (3) years' experience in a Special Access Program (SAP) and/or Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) environment within the last five (5) years
Education:
• Master of Science (MS)/Master of Arts (MA) or higher in a relevant engineering discipline.
• In lieu of the MS/MA or higher in a relevant engineering discipline, a BS in a relevant engineering discipline and a MS/MA or higher, or an equivalent professional degree (for example, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Juris Doctor). An engineering technology degree does not meet this requirement.
• In lieu of the MS/MA or higher or an equivalent professional degree, a BS/BA in a relevant engineering discipline and fifteen (15) years of experience in an engineering position with the DoD, other government agency, or DoD contractor.
Clearance Requirements:
• Must possess an active DoD Top Secret (TS) security clearance with ability to obtain SCI
• U.S. Citizenship is required for this position, due to contract requirements.
