The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) Space Base Delta 3 (SBD 3) Judge Advocate/Legal Office (JA) at Los Angeles Air Force Base, California is searching for a Paralegal Specialist (NH-0950-03, GS 12/13 equivalent).
Description:
Space Base Delta 3 (SBD 3) serves as the operational host and support installation for Space Systems Command (SSC)-the epicenter of research, development, acquisition, and sustainment for the nation's military space systems. As a Senior Paralegal within the SBD 3 Legal Office, you will drive the operational tempo and legal integrity of our installation law practice by managing all aspects of the effective, efficient daily operations of the legal office while working alongside military and civilian attorneys, senior base commanders, program managers, and federal investigators to support billions of dollars in defense space programs, critical infrastructure operations, and statutory compliance. In this high-impact role, you will partner closely with contract and general law attorneys across complex installation law disciplines, serve as the primary focal point for the installation's Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) Program, design and deliver formal educational briefings, and act as the professional face and primary liaison for executive legal customer service across the entire installation.
The ideal candidate possesses comprehensive knowledge of federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, combined with a proven ability to research, analyze, and interpret complex legal documents to make and articulate legally sound, logical decisions in case preparation. This accomplished professional demonstrates the project management expertise required to oversee funding, scheduling, and resources, alongside the human resources acumen to manage all aspects of military and civilian staffing, position classification, and personnel development within the directorate. A skilled leader and mentor, they can seamlessly plan, organize, and adjust multi-segment work operations to meet program objectives, motivate personnel, leverage modern computer-based office systems, and communicate with exceptional clarity both orally and in writing across all levels of the Department of the Air Force, the Department of Defense, and other Federal organizations.
Key Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of and ability to research analyze and interpret legal documents and apply the information to case preparation. Ability to manage projects, including funding and scheduling. Ability to make and articulate legally sound logical decisions and skill in applying the law to specific situations. Knowledge of federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge and ability in using computer-based programs and systems that are used by office staff. Ability and skill to effectively communicate both orally and in writing with staff at all levels of the Department of the Air Force, the Department of Defense and other Federal organizations. Ability and skill to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization. Ability and skill to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. Ability to manage all aspects of military and civilian human resources within the directorate, including the staffing and classification of positions, and the development and processing of requests for additional personnel.

- U.S. Citizenship Required
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
- May be required to function as a Notary Public. Must be able to satisfactorily complete training to become a Notary Public and be able to meet bonding or other requirements inherent in the appointment as a Notary Public.
- PCS is not authorized. Incentive is not authorized.
- Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework".
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
- Depending on the type of position (competitive/excepted) you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.
- Upon completion of your probationary/trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest.
