Position Description & Qualifications

Serco has a new and exciting opportunity working with our US Navy client. This position is perfect for a business intelligence product designer who's technical and communication skills are merged to multitask in our agile environment!

Must have an active U.S. Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance.

This project provides agile software development and lifecycle management for a set of integrated readiness models for Navy ships, aircraft and selected expeditionary units. These modeling outputs and other products identify readiness requirements such as fuel, flying hours, maintenance and serve as inputs to the DON, DOD, Presidential, and Congressional budgets.

You will be part of a 24-person, remote team. Because this project manages multiple models and areas of analysis, team organization is broken into smaller groups with technically focused team leaders. You will largely be working with team leaders and Navy clients as a BI product designer.

In this role, you will:
  • Develop, design, and maintain dashboards and analytics.
  • Collect, refine, and prepare data for analytics and visualization.
  • Manage and utilize dashboard platforms (mainly Tableau) to extract meaningful insights.
  • Prepare reports using various visualization and data modeling methods.
  • Collect data from various data sources and normalize it.
  • Test and publish dashboards and reports and schedule refreshes.
  • Drill-down data and prepare reports with increased levels of detail.
  • Apply algorithms and statistical methods to obtain answers from data.
  • Solve data or performance issues related to workbooks and data sources.


To be successful in this role, you will have:
  • An active Secret security clearance.
    • A U.S. citizenship.
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, Information Systems, Mathematics or related field
  • 5 years of relevant experience.
  • The ability to work with a team in both physical and virtual environments.
  • The proficiency in analytics and database querying tools.
  • An extensive experience in developing and managing dashboards and reports in Tableau.
  • Excellent analytical skills to forecast and predict trends and insights using past and current data.
  • Knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, data mapping, data analysis, and data visualization.
  • Experience in data presentation through various bars/charts/models/dashboards.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in Excel, Visio, PL/SQL, ETL, and the Tableau platform.
  • Technical knowledge of Tableau Products and versions including Tableau Server, Tableau Public, Tableau Online, Tableau Desktop, and so on.
  • To be able to build visually and interactive dashboards.
  • To be able to manipulate and blend data in order to design dashboards and visualization.
  • Knowledge of data migration, Tableau integration, and extensions.
  • Certifications in Tableau and other BI tools is an added advantage.
  • Working knowledge of Power BI and/or Qlik a plus.
  • Experience with government databases such as ADVANA/Jupiter a plus


A plus for succeeding in this position would be:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of design principles and quality processes.
  • Understanding and transforming customer expectations into technical requirements.
  • Technical knowledge of Tableau Products and various versions.
  • Understanding of data security and its implementation.
