Standard Job Description

Conducts mission/program specific real time spacecraft/satellite flight operations during readiness, execution and evaluation phases. Develops detailed plans and procedures to provide maximum mission support in areas such as orbit dynamics, satellite performance analysis, command and control of on-orbit satellites. Provides technical direction for on orbit mission support, plans for critical vehicle malfunctions and recommends alternate operating techniques to continue maximum mission support. Provides failure analysis of the performance of the orbiting satellites via telemetry data. Utilizes system software to accomplish all spacecraft control tasks and recommends improvements. Analyzes and validates software performance. Performs flight length orbit adjustments and daily special event studies.

Daily Tasks

• Apply strong analytical and troubleshooting expertise to diagnose and resolve complex system issues

• Perform software maintenance and support for Linux, AIX, and PC-compatible platforms

• Coordinate with internal and external organizations to facilitate daily customer data collection requirements, satellite health, payload health, and safety commanding

• Perform basic UNIX/Linux system commands to troubleshoot real-time issues

• Participate in flight software simulations, offering constructive feedback to engineering and development test teams

• Document software defects comprehensively and track resolutions to completion; liaise with Space Force and contractor personnel to ensure optimal operation of satellite ground-system software and hardware

• Investigate and provide direct support for sensor tasking, scheduling orbital maneuvers, and Mission Management Software Interface (MMSI) execution issues

• Assist the Mission Planning Cell in Universal Tasking Requests (UTRs) for refinement of data collection

• Coordinates, develops, and participates in operational testing, evaluation, and implementation of software updates

• Provide technical subject matter expertise to customer crews including sensor capabilities, data collection, satellite/payload health, and maintenance activities to support operations

• Promptly identify deficiencies and generate reports for the operations crews to provide corrective actions or workaround to minimize mission impact

Basic Qualifications

• Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a DoD TS/SCI Clearance

• Must have ability to cultivate and develop effective customer relationships and work with senior technical management

• Ability to learn and troubleshoot complex systems

• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment

• Ability to navigate the Linux file system using common commands

• Strong communication and team motivation skills

• Experience with Space Mission Management, Space Mission Planning, Space Mission Operations, or Space vehicle maintenance

Desired Skills

• Active DoD TS/SCI clearance

• Experience demonstrating a proficiency and knowledge in SBIRS Mission Management operations, satellites, and/or mission processing

• Strong organizational skills

• Experience in conducting technical investigations and providing results to leadership team

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Experience with the SBIRS program

• Ability to work as a member of a team in a dynamic environment

• Proficiency in one of the related: Linux, AIX, Shell Scripting, Perl, Python, web development, system analsis, system design, software design, software development and implementation, software test, and/or cyber security.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $79300.00 - $147300.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
