Overview
This position supports the Atlantic Test Range (ATR) Range Safety Office in Patuxent River, MD, delivering critical range safety planning, hazard analysis, documentation development, and real-time operational test support. The core mission of Range Safety is to apply Operational Risk Management (ORM) principles to mitigate range safety risks, ensuring that residual risk to personnel, property, and critical infrastructure is minimized and formally accepted at the appropriate leadership level.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety Analysis & Hazard Evaluation
- Conduct comprehensive technical analyses, evaluations, and hazard mitigations of project test plans and external documentation in accordance with NAVAIR safety instructions.
- Perform specialized reviews to identify potential range hazards, ensure operational safety, and grant Range Safety approval prior to project scheduling and testing.
- Provide analytical support to enhance the functionality and reliability of NAVAIR flight and range safety systems.
Policy, Guidance & Documentation
- Author, update, and maintain critical RDT&E range safety policies, guidance, and project-specific planning documentation.
- Apply and maintain an expert working knowledge of Operational Risk Management (ORM) principles, specifically concerning hazardous test range operations.
Mission Operations & Real-Time Support
- Provide real-time operational safety support to the Range Safety Team during live-fire, flight, and testing events in strict compliance with Range Safety Policy.
- Monitor live, safety-critical events to ensure compliance with established tolerance levels, managing hazards to military assets, non-participant aviation, personnel, and the public.

Education, Experience, and Skill Requirements:
- BS Degree in an engineering discipline from a school of engineering accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or in a related discipline such as physics, mathematics or computer science from an accredited college or university.
- Applicant must be a self-starter, flexible, and team-oriented to be able to work smoothly as a member of a technical team
- Must be computer literate and possess strong analytical skills
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
- Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and successfully pass drug screening
Security Clearance:
- Currently hold or be able to obtain and maintain the proper US DoD issued security clearance, which requires US Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility may be discussed during the interview phase.
- Employment and start date is contingent upon the candidate receiving the required US DoD issued interim security clearance.
Work Conditions:
- Most work is performed in enclosed buildings at a desk or in data processing environments. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching. Special vision abilities to perform this job are close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. Some travel and/or overtime may be required.
