Data Conversion Engineer

Our client, a leading public safety technology company, is seeking two Data Conversion Engineers for an initial 6 month contract with high likelihood of extension. These individuals will primarily work remotely, with about 20% travel for client data discovery and legacy system assessments as needed, and will support end-to-end data conversions as public safety agencies migrate from legacy systems to the client's platform. The role includes data mapping, transformation logic, conversion scripting, data profiling, schema analysis, ingestion, validation, QA, and cutover support.

The Data Conversion Engineers will work closely with agency technical teams as well as internal Product, Sales, and Engineering stakeholders, serving as client-facing technical resource throughout conversion engagements.

Required Skills:

• 5+ years experience in data engineering
• High proficiency in SQL querying
• Proficiency with Python and cloud tools
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
• Experience with REST APIs and data formats including JSON, XML, and YAML
• Experience with data mapping, ETL, data migration, or data conversion projects
• Experience analyzing database schemas, profiling data, and developing transformation logic
• Experience developing and maintaining customer production systems
• Familiarity with REST API clients such as Postman or Insomnia
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with both technical and non-technical customers
• Ability to pass a CJIS background check and appropriately handle confidential information

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with public safety software, including Records Management Systems (RMS) or Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)
• Backend engineering experience with Java, Scala, C++, or a similar language
• Experience working in a customer-facing role
• Experience using AI tools to improve data conversion, scripting, or technical delivery processes
• STEM Degree
