Job Description

Description

Are you interested in taking ground-breaking concepts and turning them into ambitious new capabilities that solve the most vexing integrated defense problems of our nation?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking mission engineers to help conceive, define and evaluate system of system requirements for operational applications. We need people who can apply a wide range of modeling, simulation and analytical tools to advance our understanding of sensor, network, combat system and missile performance. We are particularly interested in engineers familiar with digital engineering tools and practices to quickly evolve agile new concepts for rapid deployment to our customers.

As a Mission Engineer you will...
  • Develop and refine complex mission threads to identify capability gaps and define requirements for future defense capabilities.
  • Lead comprehensive analysis studies to evaluate how multiple platforms and technologies interact within a mission environment.
  • Conduct rigorous assessments of both materiel and non-materiel solutions to meet mission objectives.
  • Utilize mission architecting tools and information dashboards to communicate complex system performance and mission outcomes to stakeholders.

Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
  • Have a BS degree in systems engineering, operations research, mathematics, engineering, applied science, or other related technical degree.
  • Have at least 3 years of professional experience performing systems engineering, systems analysis, mission analysis or operations research.
  • Possess the knowledge of DoW's mission engineering and defense acquisition processes.
  • Possess strong speaking and writing skills.
  • Are able to organize tasks, collaborate with others and coordinate your work across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Are willing and able to travel periodically, including short duration visits to sponsor offices and supporting contractor sites.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • An MS in systems engineering, operations research, mathematics, engineering, applied science, or other related technical degree.
  • Have demonstrated experience developing mission threads and identifying candidate materiel and non-materiel solutions.
  • Have demonstrated experience executing missions and system-of-systems analysis studies.
  • Have demonstrated experience executing prototype/technology transition to production or acquisition.
  • Have experience in mission architecting, mission analysis, and information dashboard tools.
  • Have experience with DoW air and missile defense missions with supporting systems and technology.
