Job Description

Prometheus Security Group Global (PSG) is hiring a CAD Engineer I to join its engineering team in Austin, TX. PSG is a Veteran-Owned Small Business that designs and integrates access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance systems for high-security government and commercial facilities.

Position Summary
The CAD Engineer I provides engineering design support, drafting, and modeling for new products, and produces detailed installation drawing packages and graphics for security systems in high-security applications. This position develops and maintains detailed design drawings and specifications for mechanical equipment, controls, and processes using CAD software, and manages projects by owning their design drawings.

The ideal candidate has experience applying electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering design principles, strong 2D and 3D design skills, and strong math skills. The candidate is organized, communicates clearly, works well on cross-functional teams, and is committed to customer service.

Responsibilities
• Modify and revise security system designs to correct operating deficiencies and reduce production issues
• Develop detailed specifications for components and equipment using CAD software
• Work with engineering and project staff to design, lay out, and detail components and systems, and resolve design problems
• Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, and related data to identify factors that affect designs
• Track, control, and organize drawings through version control and part number assignment, using the established part numbering system
• Make sure work follows system design documentation, and document any deviations
• Recommend and help develop engineering changes as needed
• Work directly with clients, document their requirements and service requests, and send them through the proper channels
• Develop expertise in government high-security requirements and design principles
• Complete assigned tasks on schedule and adjust priorities as project demands change

Qualifications
• Experience with electrical, mechanical, or civil engineering design principles
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) and support equipment such as plotters
• Ability to use an engineering scale and calipers
• Ability to produce accurate, scaled drawings from physical components
• Familiarity with CAD symbols and standards
• Familiarity with security, access control, and video surveillance design standards
• Experience with GIS mapping and ESRI ArcGIS
• Ability to read architectural plans and specifications and turn them into drawings
• Ability to create electrical schematics and interconnection diagrams under direction from Engineering staff
• Strong planning, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills in English
• Graphic design experience

Education
• Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Design and Drafting, or 5+ years of 2D and 3D CAD and drafting experience
• Certification in graphic design tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, or similar)

Security Clearance
• Must be able to obtain a SECRET security clearance
