Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field, plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:: Must be able to obtain Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable amount of time after hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) is seeking a Systems Engineer to help design, develop, integrate, and field advanced systems aboard surface vessels for the United States Navy and Coast Guard. This is an opportunity to work on a fast-moving program where you'll collaborate across disciplines, solve hands-on technical challenges, and help move mission-critical capabilities from concept to fielded product.
You'll contribute throughout the systems engineering lifecycle-from concepts of operations (CONOPs), requirements, and architecture through design, implementation, integration and test, operations, and sustainment.

What You'll Do
As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring our surface vessel systems are robust, secure, and mission-ready. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Work with engineering teams, program management, teammates, subcontractors, and customers to define system needs, coordinate interfaces, and resolve technical challenges.
- Develop and manage requirements; perform functional and performance analyses, system design, trade studies, interface definition, integration, and verification.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve system design weaknesses. During integration, use drawings, wiring diagrams, interconnect diagrams, and interface diagrams to diagnose faults and drive corrective actions.
- Identify, mitigate, and manage technical risk. Support technical planning, cost and risk analyses, and assessments of system supportability and effectiveness.
- Develop technical engineering products using appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools. Research specifications, manuals, vendor products, and supplied equipment to assess design feasibility.
- Develop system security documentation for new and fielded systems and support accreditation, certification, evaluation, and test activities as needed.
- Plan and execute assigned technical work while communicating issues, impacts, and recommendations clearly to engineering and program teams.
- Look for opportunities to improve engineering practices, including appropriate uses of AI for continuous improvement and innovation.
What You Bring
- Experience applying systems engineering principles across multiple phases of the product lifecycle.
- Experience collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines and internal and external stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with system integration and troubleshooting: recognizing technical issues, understanding faults, and working with others to implement effective corrections.
- Experience identifying, mitigating, and managing risk.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues, impacts, and corrective actions to engineering and program teams.
- The ability to learn quickly, handle complex assignments, and connect engineering decisions to program objectives.
Additional Qualifications

- Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) or tools such as DOORS, Cameo, or MagicDraw
