Job Description:

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) or FSO with 6-8 years of direct experience supporting federal government classified contracts and programs. You will oversee security management activities, ensure regulatory adherence, and serve as a key advisor to leadership on security matters and a trusted security resource for employees, managers, and program teams.

The Assistant Facility Security Officer (AFSO) works onsite at our Charleston, SC office and supports the Corporate Facility Security Officer (FSO) in managing all aspects of industrial security compliance under 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM Rule). This role ensures the protection of classified information, oversees personnel security actions, and maintains compliance with government security directives. The AFSO works closely with internal teams, government customers, and Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) representatives. The AFSO assumes FSO responsibilities in the FSO's absence.

Responsible for ensuring the facility and supported programs operate in compliance with 32 CFR Part 117 (NISPOM Rule), contract security requirements (including DD Form 254 Security Classification Guides), customer directives, and company policies and procedures. This position requires partnership with IT, Contracts, Operations, Growth, and Human Resources departments to ensure compliance across physical and personnel security programs.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience managing industrial security operations within a cleared contractor environment and the confidence to assess risk, make sound security decisions, and communicate requirements effectively across all levels of the organization - from program staff to executive leadership and government customers. Must continuously monitor evolving government security requirements and recommend process improvements as the company continues to grow.

Required Skills and/or Experience:

Key Responsibilities & Skills:

• Collaborate with business development, contracts, finance, and program management teams to ensure alignment of company strategy and operations and compliance with security regulations

• Mentor and train other AFSOs and security specialists.

• Demonstrate strong judgment, composure under tight deadlines, and the ability to manage multiple complex priorities.

• Review Standard Form 86 (SF-86) personnel security questionnaires, ensuring information is adequate and complete

• Verify employee, contractor, and visitor credentials and authorizations, including need-to-know, and maintain access controls for classified materials and secured areas.

• Submit and manage visit authorizations for cleared employees travelling to customer or business partner sites (VARs, VALs, etc.).

• Identify, investigate, document, and promptly report security violations, discrepancies, potential compromises, incidents, and unusual conditions involving classified materials, facility access, and security procedures.

• Monitor compliance with facility security policies and report violations or vulnerabilities to the appropriate supervisor.

• Assist with investigations involving security breaches, unauthorized access, property loss, workplace incidents, or other facility concerns.

• Develop, administer and track industrial security training for cleared employees.

• Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive security information, incident reports, and facility-related information.

• Execute other administrative business tasks in accordance with business needs.

• Process and manage personnel security clearances through DISS, including new submissions, upgrades, visit requests, and debriefings.

• Coordinate onboarding and security indoctrination for cleared employees

• Conduct annual security refresher training and support insider threat awareness.

• Maintain personnel security files, visit records, DD254s, and other required security documentation.

• Support classified contract execution by ensuring appropriate security requirements are implemented and maintained.

• Assist with classified meetings, visitor control, foreign travel reporting, and classified material accountability.

• Help prepare for and support security reviews, self-inspections, and internal audits.

Qualifications:

• Previous Experience working as an FSO or Assistant FSO for a company on multiple DoW contracts. Experience working as an Insider Threat Program Senior Official (ITPSO) or on Insider Threat Management Team.

• Experience going through a DCSA Security Audits/Reviews. Experience entering classified visit requests in DISS, reporting foreign travel, initiating re-investigations, reporting incidents, performing annual self-inspections, and managing company training required for PCL and IT security compliance.

• Must have good knowledge and understanding of the NISPOM, SEADs, and FAR and DFARS clauses relevant to industrial security.

• Proficiency in using DISS, NISS, NCAISS, NBIS, eApp and other federal systems relevant to industrial security.

• Expertise in adequacy and completeness optimization of SF 86 submissions.

• High level of organization and attention to detail, with a demonstrable ability to efficiently manage multiple security tasks and responsibilities simultaneously.

• Experience working at a facility that not only has non-possessing Secret requirements but CUI protection requirements and ITAR/EAR protection requirements. Knowledge and experience with NIST 800-171 R2 and CMMC 2.0.

• Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments

• Ability to multi-task and work successfully in a fast-paced environment

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Expert-level proficiency in Excel other Windows based Office Products

• Exceptional analytical skills with high attention to detail.

• Must have active Secret clearance and be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

• Industry certification (NCMS Industrial Security Professional ISP) or proven experience

• Active Top Secret clearance

• Experience as an Export Control empowered official

Degree Requirements:

• Minimum High School diploma and 7-10 years of related experience

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 5-8 years of related experience preferred. Experience can consist of any time spent as an FSO, AFSO, or military Security Manager
