Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Satellite Bus Engineer to provide technical leadership and engineering expertise in support of satellite and space system programs. This is a senior-level, subject matter expert role responsible for supporting the full lifecycle of spacecraft bus systems, spanning design, development, integration, testing, launch, and sustainment.
In this capacity, the Senior Satellite Bus Engineer will lead and support systems engineering activities, conduct technical evaluations, manage engineering risk, and ensure mission assurance across all phases of the program lifecycle. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable diving into complex technical analyses as they are collaborating with customers, contractors, and cross-functional engineering teams to drive program success.
The Senior Satellite Bus Engineer will:
serve as a subject matter expert and technical leader across the full satellite lifecycle, from early design through launch and sustainment
You'll work alongside customers, contractors, and elite multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver space solutions that truly matter
Leading systems engineering efforts including requirements development, verification, validation, and technical risk management
Evaluating spacecraft designs, engineering products, and technical solutions to ensure peak mission performance and quality
Conducting technical assessments, analyses, and trade studies that drive smart program decisions
Collaborating across teams to identify and resolve complex technical challenges
Participating in technical reviews, integration activities, test events, and milestone assessments
Preparing and presenting technical reports, briefings, and engineering documentation to stakeholders
Mentoring and guiding junior engineers, sharing your expertise to strengthen the team
Representing SBG at customer meetings, technical reviews, conferences, and industry events
Contributing to strategic planning, technology assessments, and innovation initiatives
Qualifications & Required Skills:
10+ years of relevant experience in spacecraft, satellite, or space systems engineering
Advanced knowledge of spacecraft bus architectures, subsystems, and lifecycle processes
Hands-on experience supporting the design, development, integration, testing, launch, and sustainment of complex aerospace or space systems
Strong command of systems engineering methodologies — requirements development, verification, validation, and configuration management
Proven ability to analyze complex technical challenges and develop practical, effective solutions
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
Ability to juggle multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Active TS/SCI clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain one
Preferred Skills:
15+ years of relevant experience
Experience supporting DoD, U.S. Space Force, Intelligence Community, NASA, or other Government space programs
Background in spacecraft acquisition, manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing
Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, and systems architecture
Experience with satellite mission operations, mission assurance, and reliability engineering
Knowledge of applicable aerospace, Government, and industry technical standards
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing contractor oversight
Exposure to spacecraft analysis, modeling, simulation, and engineering toolsets
Involvement in proposal development, business development, or capture activities
Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
Desired: Master's degree or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or technical field; advanced coursework in spacecraft systems, mission assurance, or space systems acquisition
Certification(s), Licenses:
NCOSE CSEP / ESEP
PMP
DAU / DAWIA Acquisition Certifications
Professional Engineer (PE) License
Years of experience in a similar role:
Required: 10+ years of relevant experience in spacecraft, satellite, or space systems engineering
Preferred: 15+ years of relevant experience
