DEVSECOPS ENGINEER
Apex Systems is currently hiring a DevSecOps Engineer with a large federal client. As a DevSecOps Engineer, you will play a critical role in modernizing application development and deployment processes within a secure, Kubernetes-based hosting environment supporting enterprise and mission-critical applications. This position will help drive automation, security integration, and infrastructure modernization efforts through the implementation of DevSecOps best practices and cloud-native technologies.
Project Details / Mission Supported:
• Design, implement, and maintain a DevSecOps framework supporting containerized and cloud-native application environments.
• Integrate tools such as GitLab, Terraform, and Ansible into CI/CD pipelines to automate application development, deployment, and security processes.
• Develop and enforce security gates within CI/CD pipelines to ensure secure code, container images, and configurations are deployed.
• Collaborate with development teams to containerize legacy applications and migrate workloads into Kubernetes-based environments.
• Integrate Static Application Security Testing (SAST), Dynamic Application Security Testing (DAST), and container image scanning capabilities into CI/CD pipelines.
• Utilize vulnerability scanning tools such as Trivy, Clair, or Anchore to identify and remediate security risks within container images.
• Implement and manage secrets management solutions such as HashiCorp Vault and Sealed Secrets to securely manage sensitive data.
• Monitor CI/CD pipelines and Kubernetes workloads for performance, security, compliance, and operational health.
• Optimize pipeline performance, automation workflows, and resource utilization to improve deployment efficiency and scalability.
• Work closely with developers, platform engineers, and cybersecurity teams to ensure applications meet security, compliance, and operational requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and training on DevSecOps methodologies, tooling, and best practices.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business and technical objectives into deployable solutions and technical requirements.
• Ensure applications, infrastructure, and deployment pipelines comply with RMF, NIST 800-53, CIS Benchmarks, and applicable cybersecurity requirements.
• Generate reports and metrics related to pipeline security, application compliance, deployment performance, and operational effectiveness.
Qualified candidates will have the following experience and skills:
• Strong experience implementing and managing DevSecOps frameworks utilizing platforms such as GitLab, Azure DevOps, GitHub, Bitbucket, or Atlassian toolsets.
• Strong Infrastructure as Code (IaC) experience utilizing Terraform, Ansible, or similar automation tools.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and Red Hat OpenShift.
• Experience designing, building, automating, and optimizing CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of application security testing methodologies, including SAST and DAST tools such as SonarQube, OWASP ZAP, or Burp Suite.
• Familiarity with container security and image scanning tools such as Trivy, Clair, or Anchore.
• Experience with enterprise secrets management technologies such as HashiCorp Vault or Sealed Secrets.
• Proficiency with scripting and automation using Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar languages.
• Experience supporting Kubernetes-hosted applications and troubleshooting CI/CD pipeline issues.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, and GitLab CI/CD dashboards.
• Working knowledge of DoD STIGs, IAVM processes, RMF requirements, and/or industry-standard security hardening practices.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills across development, platform, automation, and security domains.
Required Certifications:
• DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE or equivalent).
• Must obtain a related Computing Environment certification within six months of hire (examples include GitLab, Azure DevOps, Atlassian/Jira, or similar DevOps platform certifications).
Location: Radford, VA
Onsite Expectation: Hybrid telework with onsite support as needed.
Customer Requirement: Candidates must reside within approximately a 5-hour driving radius of Radford, VA due to onsite support expectations.
Clearance Requirement: Active DoD Secret Clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain an active United States Secret security clearance as a condition and continuation of employment.
Pay Range: $75-$90/hr W2
Education:
• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
