HX5 is currently seeking an experienced part-time High Temperature Materials Researcher to join our team in Brook Park, Ohio in support of the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will provide expertise, advice and guidance for the following tasks:
- Installation and orientation of slabs of single crystal materials in special holders to prepare for specimen extraction.
- Extraction of wave springs, generation of recast layer coupons, and tensile test specimen cylinders
- Inspection of extracted parts.
- Documentation of work as needed into a final report for the Space Act Agreement (SAA) Partner
- Participation in periodic meetings with NASA staff and SAA Partner
- Provide guidance and advice to SAA Partner on single crystal materials and technology
Required Skills:
- Knowledge and expertise with Ni-based superalloys and high temperature testing
- Knowledge and experience with X-ray characterization of single crystal alloys
- Knowledge and experience with Wave Spring theory and design
Education/Experience:
Completed at least a Bachelor of Science degree, from an accredited program, with the following education and experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree and twenty or more years of relevant experience
- Master of Science degree and fifteen years of relevant experience
- Ph D. and ten years of relevant experience
Other Position Requirements:
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation
