Standard Job Description

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. For positions that perform IT responsibilities, use E646, Systems Engr-IT.
  • The Combined Orbital Operations, Logistics, and Resiliency (COOLR) program ensures U.S. military forces have continuous, secure, and uninterrupted global communications by providing operations and maintenance of Military Strategic and Tactical Relay (Milstar), and Advanced Extremely High Frequency (AEHF) satellite constellations. COOLR's mission encompasses satellite bus and payload sustainment, ground hardware maintenance, on-orbit troubleshooting, cybersecurity enhancements, and mission planning.
  • This position supports the AEHF program, providing worldwide, secure, survivable, protected communications, where you will serve as a systems engineering authority Epic-driven activities spanning hardware, software, and firmware boundaries. You will plan, coordinate, and execute system architecture, requirements, design and integration activities. You will inspire systems thinking, systems engineering mindset while driving systems engineering discipline, guiding and optimizing processes across the COOLR portfolio. Responsibilities include:
  • Serve as technical resource and authority for the Associate Chief Engineer, shaping strategic sustainment priorities and providing technical leadership from early-stage planning through sustained operations, ensuring team alignment on design intent and mission success.
  • Engage in early system lifecycle stages (concept through design) to establish requirements, architecture frameworks, and baseline specifications that define technical direction and enable seamless progression into detailed design and implementation.
  • Lead technical trade studies and detailed design collaborations with cross-functional teams (product, program management, customers), analyzing problem definitions and maintaining comprehensive documentation baselines including specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), architecture, and solution designs.
  • Deliver COOLR sustainment engineering oversight, coordinating technical issue resolution through Working Groups and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams (hardware, software, test, logistics) to ensure successful integration, fielding of upgrades, and alignment with program operational milestones.
  • Continuously improve standard engineering methods and processes (front-end architecture, design reviews) to ensure program-wide consistency, adherence to the engineering baseline, and mission success.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Systems Engineering or related discipline), or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in a complex engineering role with focus on Satellite Communications and Ground systems
  • Experience in Systems Engineering and/or Systems Integration
  • Active and current Secret Clearance required. Thus US Citizenship is required

  • Strong mission and end-to-end systems expertise: system, space and ground integration supporting Satellite Sustainment Operations
  • Proven experience as a conceptual thinker with the ability to translate into action and results

  • Demonstrated ability to drive closure and resolve complex technical issues / challenges
  • Familiarity with LM Space Engineering processes and command media
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills, and ability to build consensus among peers while building relationships with customers and team members


Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $104900.00 - $194700.00

PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
