Senior Electronic Security Engineer
Purpose:
Job Description:
The Senior Electronic Security Engineer provides senior engineering leadership across the ESS project lifecycle, from surveys and system architecture through integration, testing, acceptance, sustainment, and modernization. The role serves as the company technical authority for complex ESS solutions and ensures designs and deliverables are compliant, interoperable, secure, and supportable.
System Engineering & Design
• Lead development and review of integrated ESS architectures, engineering concepts, design criteria, drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, data-flow diagrams, and system documentation.
• Design and integrate Access Control Systems (ACS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Video Surveillance / Video Management Systems (VSS/CCTV/VMS), alarm monitoring, intercom, duress, mass notification, data transmission, and command-and-control solutions.
• Perform and oversee engineering surveys and site-condition assessments; validate existing infrastructure, interfaces, compatibility, capacity, and installation constraints.
• Develop and review equipment specifications, bills of material, equipment lists, interface requirements, and technical recommendations, including identification of long-lead or technically critical items.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable contract requirements, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS), DoD/Service physical-security requirements, electrical and life-safety criteria, manufacturer requirements, and project-specific standards.
• Provide special engineering studies, modernization assessments, and technical alternatives for complex or non-standard requirements.
Integration, Cybersecurity & Technical Oversight
• Lead integration of multiple ESS subsystems with IP networks, data transmission systems, existing Government infrastructure, and other facility-related systems.
• Oversee technical configuration and interoperability of security platforms, servers, workstations, network devices, field controllers, sensors, cameras, and associated software and firmware.
• Coordinate ESS engineering with cybersecurity requirements, including secure configuration, DISA STIG/SRG implementation, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and documentation needed to support Authority to Operate (ATO) activities when applicable.
• Review technical submittals, shop drawings, engineering change proposals, Requests for Information, deviations, and configuration changes for technical adequacy and contract compliance.
• Provide senior-level troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex system, interface, performance, and integration issues.
• Provide engineering oversight during installation, commissioning, maintenance, sustainment, upgrades, and warranty support.
Testing, Acceptance & Technical Documentation
• Develop, review, and approve test procedures, commissioning plans, and System Acceptance Testing (SAT) approaches consistent with project requirements.
• Participate in or lead factory, pre-acceptance, functional, burn-in, cybersecurity, commissioning, and final acceptance testing as required.
• Assess test results, punch-list items, nonconformances, and corrective actions; drive technical issues to closure before Government acceptance.
• Ensure engineering deliverables accurately reflect the installed configuration, including as-built drawings, O&M manuals, system descriptions, network diagrams, equipment lists, and other required technical records.
• Prepare and review engineering reports, site survey reports, compatibility assessments, technical memoranda, and other customer deliverables.
Technical Leadership & Program Support
• Serve as senior ESS subject matter expert and company technical representative in customer meetings, design reviews, technical interchange meetings, and project planning sessions.
• Provide technical direction, mentoring, and review to Electronic Security Engineers, Engineering Technicians, Electronics/Field Technicians, and other project personnel.
• Establish and reinforce engineering standards, repeatable design practices, technical review processes, and lessons learned across ESS programs.
• Coordinate with Program Managers, Project Managers, quality, cybersecurity, installation leadership, subcontractors, manufacturers, and Government stakeholders to resolve technical risks and maintain project execution.
• Support proposal development and task-order responses through technical solution development, basis-of-estimate input, engineering assumptions, risk identification, technical narratives, and review of proposed equipment and architectures.
• Support facility security assessments, system lifecycle planning, technology refresh, and modernization roadmaps.

Required Qualifications:
• Must have a bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering from an accredited university or college.
• Must have a minimum ten (10) years of experience in the electronic security systems field, including senior-level ESS engineering, design, integration, installation, testing, or sustainment.
• Must have demonstrated experience designing or integrating complex, large-scale electronic security systems for federal, defense, critical-infrastructure, or similarly regulated environments.
• Must have demonstrated ability to lead complex ESS architecture, multidisciplinary technical reviews, integration planning, and resolution of system-level engineering issues.
• Must have strong working knowledge of ESS architectures, electrical/electronic interfaces, IP-based systems, network infrastructure, and system interoperability, with the ability to develop and review engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, equipment lists, and technical submittals.
• Must have working knowledge of applicable Government engineering, physical-security, cybersecurity, quality, and acceptance requirements relevant to ESS delivery.
• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent the company effectively with Government customers and technical stakeholders.
• Must have at least one of the following professional credentials: U.S. Professional Engineer (PE) license, ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP), or ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP). Holding both CPP and PSP certifications is ideal.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience supporting U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Department of Defense, or other federal ESS programs preferred.
• Knowledge of UFC 4-021-02 Electronic Security Systems, UFC 4-010-06 Cybersecurity of Facility-Related Control Systems, UFGS 28 10 05 Electronic Security Systems, UFGS 28 08 10 Electronic Security System Acceptance Testing, and related DoD/Service criteria preferred.
• Experience with cybersecurity hardening and documentation for facility-related control systems, including DISA STIG/SRG requirements, vulnerability scanning, and RMF/ATO support artifacts preferred.
• Experience with enterprise-level security platforms such as Lenel OnGuard, Milestone XProtect, AMAG Symmetry, Software House C•CURE, Hirsch Velocity, Genetec Security Center, or comparable platforms preferred.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering and integration teams across geographically dispersed projects preferred.
