Senior Circuit Board Designer

Clearance Level: Must be able to obtain an Active Secret Clearance due to the nature of the work.

Location: Must be within 100 miles of Lexington, MA – This position is 100% onsite due to the nature of the work

About the Role:

Aquila Technology is seeking a Senior Circuit Board Designer to join its team in support of one of the nation’s premier defense research organizations.  The Rapid Prototyping team is seeking a hands-on and broad-background PC Board Designer with significant experience in the design, modeling and fabrication of PC Boards for novel payloads. The individual must have a deep understanding of Mil spec components, latest software and hardware tools, and best practices for layout, design, fabrication, integration & testing of a variety of PC Boards within a system. The designer must be able to interact with a number of subject matter experts in a collaborative team to develop complex sensor systems on a variety of platforms.

The Senior Circuit Board Designer will perform a variety of design drawing tasks including RF/chip & wire PCB design, Rigid-flex PCB and various advanced electrical designs for aircraft based systems. The position will require working with engineers to accumulate all documentation of critical system components, requirements, environmental constraints, estimated size, weight and power, and schedule. This critical system component information will be used to generate custom printed circuit board design files and drawings that can be reviewed and changed by program team leads and managers. Once the custom PCB designs and drawings are approved, the designs will be manufactured and integrated at the system level. The individual will need to generate complete electrical drawing packages to support the component procurement, PCB/MCM/substrate fabrication, assembly, and electrical inspection to insure accuracy and completeness of each design prior to system integration and test.

Must Have 10 years+ experience with the following skills to be considered:


  • Degree Level: Bachelor’s Degree

  • Circuit Architectures and Algorithms

  • CMOS Design

  • New Circuit Characterization and Qualification

  • PCB Design and Layout

  • Printed Circuit Design and Fabrication

  • Reconfigurable Circuits

  • CAD/EDA/TCAD

  • Mentor Graphics experience



Nice to Have


  • Hardware

  • Hardware Design Tools such as SolidWorks, PCB Layout Tools such as Altium Designer

  • Aircraft, Missile, Satellite Systems



Required Skills:


  • Current experience with Mentor Graphics Expedition, DxDesigner & Altium.

  • Expertise in parts selection

  • Schematic capture experience

  • Experience w/High Speed, Multi-Layer, Digital, Analog, RF, Flex, Controlled Impedance, Differential and Mixed Signal, (BGA’s, CCGA’s, Micro-Vias, Buried Resistors), Auto-routers.

  • Demonstrated ability to design MCMs and work in various advanced RF dielectrics and substrate technologies.

  • 10+ years relevant CAD experience.



Preferred Skills:


  • Experience with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-810

  • Experience with SolidWorks, Mentor DxDataBook and CES (Constraint Editor System) and IPC CID or CID+ certification.

  • Experience working with electronics fabrication and assemblies facilities from preliminary quoting to final inspection after assembly.

  • Experience with space grade components

  • Experience with cable design



Education:


  • BS or Trade School plus a minimum of 10 years’ experience

All tuition reimbursement requests must be submitted to and approved by the team member’s Manager prior to course registration. Reimbursement will be issued upon successful course completion and submission of final grades and proof of payment.


401K with Principal – Eligible to participate day 1 of employment. Company match on employee contributions:


• Eligibility on date of hire
• Employer Match- 100% of first 3% and 50% of next 2%
• Vesting- 100%
• Contribution limit- $24,500
• Catch-up contribution limit- $8,000
• Catch-up contribution limit for ages 60-63 in calendar year- $11,250
• Catchup contributions must be directed to Roth bucket if earned over
$150k in 2025


Cell Phone & Internet Reimbursed up to $150 monthly to cover cell phone, data, and home internet expenses. Aquila Technology will reimburse team members who work from home ONLY for cell phone/mobile device fees for work-related communications and/or operations each month. Employees eligible for this benefit must work remote 2 days a week or more to qualify.


Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) – Team members are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,500 every three (3) years for the purchase of electronic equipment used to access corporate services. To qualify for this benefit, employees must have completed a minimum of six (6) months of employment and must agree to and sign the Device Minimum Configuration Form prior to reimbursement. Electronic devices eligible under the Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) program are limited to cell phones, laptops, and tablets.


Clearance Level: An interim clearance is sufficient to start for this position
Work Locations: Candidate should expect to be onsite 5 days/wk. Must live within 100 miles of Lexington, MA
Interview process: First round zoom panel interview with a potential for a second round onsite interview for local candidates. The team will entertain zoom interview for relocation candidates.
