PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a CNC Machinist I, in Miami, FL.
Job Description:
The CNC Machinist I is responsible for setting up and operating CNC machining centers to produce high-quality machined and milled parts from raw materials, using mechanical drawings and inspection equipment while adhering to quality standards. This is an entry-level role that performs work under close supervision, with frequent guidance and oversight from supervisors and shop leads, and supports the Machine Shop in delivering accurate parts on schedule.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The primary functions include, but are not limited to:
• Perform basic CNC machine setups, including loading programs, installing tooling, setting up and verifying fixtures, and setting tool offsets.
• Operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, or other CNC equipment) to produce parts to specification.
• Load and unload raw materials and finished parts.
• Verify setup accuracy by running first-article parts and making necessary adjustments.
• Monitor machine operations and make basic process corrections as required.
• Read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, setup sheets, and work instructions.
• Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools to ensure quality requirements are met.
• Identify and report quality issues, tooling wear, or machine malfunctions.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance, including cleaning and routine checks.
• Accurately complete production, inspection, and setup documentation.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA standards.
• Follow all safety, quality, and production procedures.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• Completion of a machining or CNC training program, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience operating CNC machines; experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment is preferred.
Job Skills Required
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, setup documentation, and work instructions.
• Understanding of tooling, offsets, and workholding fundamentals.
• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, and tolerances.
• Ability to use standard precision measuring instruments, such as calipers and micrometers.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels.
• Basic English language skills.
Work Environment
Work is performed in the Machine Shop on the manufacturing floor. The environment is noisy and involves close proximity to moving mechanical parts, operating machinery, cutting fluids, and metal chips. Appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses and hearing protection, is required.
Physical Requirements
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
• Standing for most of the workday while performing essential functions.
• Visual acuity to operate heavy machinery and visually inspect small parts.
• Manual dexterity to handle tools, parts, and precision measuring instruments.
