Job Description
Deployment Tech Lead
Position Summary
ReliaSource seeks Deployment Tech Leads to run technician crews on a large-scale federal device imaging and deployment program for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Each lead directs a crew of two to eight technicians through unboxing, firmware updates, imaging, QA testing, re-boxing, and deskside device swaps, following the program Imaging and QA SOP and keeping daily production on target. Two assignments are available: an Onsite Lead based full time at our Tech Depot in Lorton, VA, with receiving, shipping, and asset-tracking duties, and Traveling Leads based in Lorton who stand up and run operations at CBP field sites across the country for about ten days at a time.
Location
Onsite Lead: Tech Depot, Lorton, VA (full time onsite)
Key Responsibilities
Direct daily work for a crew of two to eight technicians: assign stations, keep devices moving while images run, cover absences, and ensure the site meets its daily production target.
Run the device process end to end according to the Imaging and QA SOP: unbox devices and preserve packaging for reuse, verify and update BIOS and firmware, apply the CBP-provided image using approved MECM task sequence and Intune Autopilot methods, perform a functional QA check on every device, and re-box and label each device for its destination.
Perform a 100% inventory count on received shipments and verify every serial number against the CBP manifest within 24 hours of receipt. Document damaged, missing, or unlisted units the same day so discrepancies reach the COR within 24 hours.
Set aside devices that fail QA or arrive damaged for Government disposition rather than troubleshooting or repairing them. Never modify the CBP image, task sequence, or Autopilot profile.
Lead deskside deployments when directed by FSD: remove the existing device and record its serial number and SAP barcode, place and connect the new device and peripherals, verify drivers and configuration, and hand off to the onsite FSD representative.
Coordinate daily with the site Field Technology Officer (FTO) or designated point of contact on delivery, staging, and deployment schedules.
Report production numbers, QA failures, rework, and hours by task and location to the Imaging Lead at the end of every shift, feeding the weekly status report to CBP.
Escalate imaging failures, inventory discrepancies, staffing gaps, and site issues to the Imaging Lead immediately, with what has already been checked and a proposed next step.
Onsite Lead: manage receiving and shipping at the Lorton depot, including staging, carrier labels, packing, and a tracking-number log for every shipment in and out, and maintain asset-tracking records in Excel in a format that loads into the CBP SAP system.
Traveling Lead: stand up a field site on day one with local hub technicians, including devices spread across multiple buildings, and close the site out with a complete accounting of devices received, processed, and deployed.
Required Qualifications
Three or more years imaging and deploying Windows laptops and desktops with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) task sequences in an enterprise or federal environment.
Experience leading or serving as shift lead for a crew of technicians on a device refresh or deployment project.
Hands-on experience updating BIOS and firmware and triaging hardware issues on laptops, desktops, and tablets.
Demonstrated accuracy with inventory control: scanning serial numbers, reconciling against manifests, and documenting discrepancies.
Experience performing deskside device swaps for end users in an active workplace.
Ability to follow documented SOPs exactly and hold a crew to the same standard.
Clear written and verbal communication for daily reporting and coordination with customer site contacts.
Ability to perform hands-on device-processing and material-handling work for a full shift, including lifting and moving boxed devices (approximately 16 lbs each).
Traveling Leads: ability to travel approximately 5 to 8 weeks over six months in 10-day trips, with a valid driver’s license and REAL ID-compliant identification.
Onsite Lead: proficiency in Excel for asset tracking, including reconciliation, pivot tables, and status rollups by location and stage.
U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain required CBP suitability by passing a CBP Background Investigation (BI).
Preferred Qualifications
Current or previous favorable CBP/DHS suitability (EOD or PIV), or an active Secret or higher clearance.
Experience provisioning devices with Microsoft Intune Autopilot.
Depot or warehouse imaging experience at high volume, such as hundreds of devices per week.
Experience with shipping and receiving, carrier labels, and tracking logs.
CompTIA A+ or equivalent certification.
Success in this role means every device the crew touches is imaged, tested, and accounted for, counts match the manifest, daily targets are met, and the Imaging Lead hears about problems the moment they appear.
