Job Description
Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Senior UI/UX Software Engineer to support the modernization of mission-critical government applications. This role combines user experience design, frontend development, and information architecture to create intuitive, user-centric solutions for complex operational environments. The ideal candidate has strong experience designing modern web applications, conducting user research, and building responsive interfaces using modern frontend frameworks within secure government environments.
Work Environment:
Hybrid role supporting mission-critical government systems. Candidates may work from Reston, VA; Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (Washington, DC); or Annapolis Junction, MD, collaborating closely with engineers, designers, and operational users in secure environments.
Responsibilities:
- Translate mission and technical requirements into wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and intuitive user experiences.
- Conduct user research, usability testing, and workflow analysis to improve application effectiveness.
- Develop and maintain reusable UI components and design systems
- Design information architectures, navigation structures, and interfaces that simplify complex workflows and datasets.
- Ensure consistency across applications through standardized design patterns and UX best practices.
- Implement and maintain Section 508 accessibility compliance standards.
- Collaborate within Agile/Scrum teams to support sprint planning, user stories, testing, documentation, and releases.
- Support modernization, sustainment, and enhancement efforts for mission-critical applications.
Qualifications:
- Active TS/SCI Clearance with the ability to obtain or maintain a Polygraph required.
- 13+ years of relevant experience in UI/UX design, frontend development, or application modernization.
- Strong expertise in UI/UX design principles, usability testing, and human-centered design methodologies.
- Proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Figma.
- Experience developing reusable components, design systems, and frontend architectures.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred:
- Experience with Adobe XD.
- Familiarity with Node.js, Java, or AWS environments.
- Hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks including React, Angular, or Vue.
- Experience supporting real-time applications using WebSockets.
- Strong background in user research, usability testing, and accessibility-focused design.
- Experience supporting classified, mission-critical, or government modernization initiatives.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $170,000 - $190,000 based on experience.
